Netflix has reportedly tapped Watcher director Chloe Okuno to direct the next installment of their Fear Street franchise based on R.L. Stine’s popular book series, and we could not be more excited! Okuno is a talented up-and-coming director who not only gave us the excellent 2022 film Watcher starring Maika Monroe but also directed the short film Slut and one of the best shorts, “Storm Drain,” from the anthology horror film V/H/S/94 (hail Raatma!).

The news of Okuno’s alleged deal with Netflix comes from Above the Line, so it is possible that this news is false, but we’re crossing our fingers that it’s accurate and that Netflix or Okuno will make an official announcement soon.

Watcher is considered one of the best horror movies of the year. Okuno also recently directed an episode of the Showtime horror series Let the Right One In, so she’s clearly gifted at producing excellent horror content. If the reports are accurate, we cannot wait to see what she brings to the table with the new Fear Street.

What is the next Fear Street movie about?

We don’t have any information about what Netflix’s new Fear Street movie will be about or if it will be a trilogy like the first batch released in 2021, directed and co-written by Leigh Janiak. It would be fantastic if all of the movies end up having women directors.

The first three Fear Street films were connected, primarily revolving around the cursed town of Shadyside. The first film took place in 1994, followed by one in 1978 and then in 1666. Fear Street also boasted a great cast of actors like Sadie Sink, Kiana Madeira, Maya Hawke, Olivia Scott Welch, Gillian Jacobs, Chiara Aurelia, Benjamin Flores Jr., Ryan Simpkins, Darrell Britt-Gibson, and more.

Would you like to see Chloe Okuno direct a Fear Street movie for Netflix? What do you hope the next film in the franchise is about?
