Best Netflix original series 2022: Bridgerton

As expected from a Shonda Rhimes production, Bridgerton once again brought in high viewership numbers for its sophomore season. The first season of Bridgerton did very well on the streamer, so when season 2 premiered on Netflix on March 25, of course, everyone wanted to see if the second season would fare just as well. Well, it did even better!

Bridgerton season 2 follows Anthony Bridgerton as he goes on a quest to find a suitable wife but quickly finds himself in a complicated love triangle with two sisters, Kate and Edwina Sharma. We also see romance brewing with other Bridgerton siblings, such as Eloise and an apprentice at a printing shop and Benedict with a dressmaker.

Bridgerton season 3 is in the works with production underway. Principal photography on the third season is expected to wrap sometime in December, followed by post-production. After post-production finishes, we’re likely looking at a release sometime in spring 2023 or summer 2023. Get ready to see the love story between Colin Bridgerton and Penelope Featherington!

Best Netflix original series 2022: First Kill

First Kill premiered on Netflix on June 10 but was canceled two months later. I was absolutely devasted when Netflix axed the vampire teen series First Kill after only one season. It didn’t even get a chance to show everyone all that it could be.

According to various sources, First Kill was canceled because “it did not meet thresholds for viewing and completion of episodes.” But I would have to argue that the streamer played somewhat of a part in the show’s cancellation due to poor marketing. I’m sorry, but someone had to say it.

First Kill was created by Victoria Schwab. It’s based on Schwab’s short story of the same name, which is included in a book called Vampires Never Get Old: Tales with Fresh Bite by Zoraida Córdova and Natalie C. Parker. It tells the forbidden love story between a teen vampire and a teen vampire hunter.

Unfortunately, the chances of the vampire series being picked up by another streaming service or TV network are slim to none. However, we’ll always remember First Kill for what it was: an incredible series providing positive representation of the LGBTQ+ community. We’ll miss you, First Kill!
