Sins of Our Mother

Sins of Our Mother tells an unbelievable story you just have to see to believe. Another one on the list by Skye Borgman, this docuseries follows a woman named Lori Vallow who completely destroyed her family because of her faith.

The doc explores Lori Vallow’s adulthood leading into the lives of her three children. In 2019, her two youngest, Tylee Ryan and J.J. Vallow, were reported missing. Instead of aiding with the case, Lori maintained that her children were okay and there was nothing to worry about. Lori had gotten more and more involved with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and after she met a man named Chad Daybell, her views became even more extreme.

Chad convinced Lori that an apocalypse was ahead and only the pure people would be saved. He claimed he could tell who had a dark and light spirit, and decided Lori’s two youngest were dark. And according to him, the only way to free a body that has a dark spirit would be to kill them. Tylee and J.J. were found dead almost a year after their disappearance.

Sins of Our Mother is a truly chilling watch.

Night Stalker: The Hunt For a Serial Killer

Chances are you’ve heard of notorious serial killer Richard Ramirez, and the Netflix docuseries Night Stalker: The Hunt For a Serial Killer by Tiller Russell and James Carroll provides a really thorough account of the story. The Los Angeles-based murderer was known to break into homes and sexually assault and/or murder the person inside. Between the years 1984 and 1985, Ramirez murdered at least 13 people.

The crimes Ramirez committed were horrendous, and the search to catch him was extensive. Investigators were finally able to find a lead when identifying his footprints at the scene of the crimes, discovering he wore a specific style of Avia sneakers that were rare in the area.

Ramirez’s capture was celebrated by L.A. residents and he received the death penalty in court, but he ultimately passed away from lymphoma while waiting on death row.

Night Stalker: The Hunt For a Serial Killer is both educational and seriously frightening.
