Girl in the Picture

Another film on this list directed by Skye Borgman, Girl in the Picture tells the haunting and tragic life story of a woman named Sharon Marshall. As we learn in the documentary, Sharon was abducted by her stepfather while her mother was serving time behind bars. Although her siblings were found, Sharon was never returned home and instead was raised by her kidnapper, Franklin Delano Floyd, who acted as though she was his own daughter.

After Sharon graduated high school, she learned she was pregnant and her “father” would not allow her to go to college. Her life took a sharp turn at that point, as she gave her child up for adoption, moved states with her stepfather, and became a stripper. Not long after, the two relocated again and changed their names, pretending to be boyfriend-girlfriend before getting married.

Unfortunately, Sharon lost her life in a suspicious hit-and-run car accident that has never fully been explained. Girl in the Picture is a devastating and scary look at a young woman’s life taken too soon and the evil man who caused so much pain.

Conversations With a Killer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes

Netflix has taken us back to the Jeffrey Dahmer story this year with their newly-released scripted show Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story and their docuseries Conversations With a Killer: The Jeffrey Dahmer Tapes. The docuseries is the third installment of the true crime series from Joe Berlinger, following The Ted Bundy Tapes and The John Wayne Gacy Tapes. Each new story includes audio from the serial killers themselves.

As the name suggests, this one follows the story of notorious serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer and his heinous crimes. Dubbed the Milwaukee Cannibal, Dahmer murdered 17 boys and young men between the years 1978 and 1991. Many of the murders involved necrophilia and cannibalism, and he was also known to dismember some of his victims and preserve the body parts.

Without a doubt, Dahmer is one of the most disturbing criminals in American history and this docuseries includes everything from his childhood to the day he was murdered in prison.
