Netflix has a massive list of action and thriller movies, constantly adding new titles. One actor whose filmography lists several films in this genre is Liam Neeson, and Netflix has a great catalog of his films.

Recently fans heard Neeson as Qui-Gon Ginn again in the animated Tales of the Jedi, which premiered on Disney+ on Oct. 26, 2022. He has several upcoming projects, including Retribution, In the Land of Saints and Sinners, Thug, Cold Storage, and Charlie Johnson in the Flames. All of these films are in the thriller genre, which is what fans love to see Neeson star in.

Love Actually (2003)

Love Actually is all around, or so says the narrator, Hugh Grant, who portrays the Prime Minister of England, in the film Love Actually. The 2003 film directed by Richard Curtis (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Notting Hill, and Bridget Jones series), is a romantic comedy that follows ten stories that are all somehow interlinked. It is a fabulous Christmas film with an ensemble cast, including Neeson as a man who has lost his wife and must now navigate taking care of his stepson.

Taken (2008) and Taken 2 (2012)

Neeson stars in both films, of which the first finds his character Bryan Mills, an ex-CIA officer tracking down Albanian human traffickers who abduct his daughter and her friend. The second film follows Mills and his family in Istanbul, where they are kidnapped by family members of men he killed in the first movie while trying to rescue the girls. Both films received mixed critical reviews but were huge financial successes.

Cold Pursuit (2019)

This 2019 remake of the 2014 Norwegian film In Order of Disappearance, Cold Pursuit stars Neeson as a snowplow driver whose life is upended when his son dies from a forced heroin overdose. He then seeks out the drug cartel members responsible for his son’s death and begins killing them.

Non-Stop (2014)

The mystery thriller Non-Stop sees Neeson as U.S. Air Marshal Bill Marks, who lost his passion for his career. During a routine transatlantic flight, he receives numerous text messages informing him if $150 million isn’t deposited into an offshore account, one passenger will die every 20 minutes. Also starring Julianne Moore, Scoot McNairy, Lupita Nyong’o, Corey Stoll, and Jason Butler Harner.

The Ice Road (2021)

The Netflix original film, The Ice Road, is a fantastic action thriller. It is directed by Jonathan Hensleigh, his first since Kill the Irishman; it follows a truck-driving team who must traverse over frozen lakes to deliver crucial cargo to a group of workers trapped in a diamond mine.

In 2023, it was announced that Hensleigh would direct the sequel to this film, Ice Road 2: Road to the Sky, in which Neeson will star.

The Ballad of Buster Scruggs (2018)

The Coen brothers’ anthology film The Ballad of Buster Scruggs is a Netflix Original that features six vignettes set in the American Frontier. Neeson is featured in the third segment, “Meal Ticket,” where he stars alongside Harry Melling and Paul Rae. Neeson portrays an aging impresario whose business is dwindling as each town he travels to gets smaller and fewer people are interested in his stage performances.

Chloe (2009)

The mystery thriller Chloe stars Neeson, Julianne Moore, and Amanda Seyfried. Moore plays a gynecologist who believes her husband (Neeson), a music professor, has been unfaithful by cheating on her with his students. She hires an escort (Seyfried) to tempt him, but things become intense when Chloe tells all the details of their encounters.

A Walk Among the Tombstones (2014)

A Walk Among the Tombstones is a neo-noir action thriller that stars Neeson as troubled ex-cop Matthew Scudder. This film is based on Lawrence Block’s novel and stars Dan Stevens, David Harbour, and Boyd Holbrook. A drug kingpin hires Scudder to find his wife’s killers, and in the process, he uncovers shocking revelations about New York’s underworld.

A Monster Calls (2016)

The 2016 dark fantasy, A Monster Calls, is directed by J.A. Bayona and written by Patrick Ness, who also wrote the novel the film is based on.

Starring Sigourney Weaver, Felicity Jones, Toby Kebbell, Lewis MacDougall, and Liam Neeson, the film revolves around a young boy with more to handle than most kids his age. His mother is very ill, his father lives thousands of miles away, and he has nothing in common with his overbearing grandmother. One night a monster comes to him at his bedroom window and takes him on a journey.

The Next Three Days (2010)

The thriller, The Next Three Days, is a remake of the French film Pour elle (Anything for Her) by Fred Cavayé and Guillaume Lemans that was released in 2008. This film is an intriguing story about a woman imprisoned for a murder she vows she didn’t commit. Three years later, her husband struggles with the demands of working while raising their son alone. He is desperate to prove her innocence, but the appeal is rejected. This forces his hand, and he plans to break her out of jail. Neeson portrays an ex-con who staged his own prison escape.

Brave Blue World: Racing to Solve Our Water Crisis (2020)

The documentary Brave Blue World: Racing to Solve Our Water Crisis examines the water crisis and the technology that can potentially save Earth’s dire water situation.

Neeson narrates the film and features many scientists, engineers, and activists, including Matt Damon, actor and co-founder of Water.org, and musician Jaden Smith, co-founder of the non-profit organization 501CTHREE.

Derry Girls season 3

While not a film, Neeson makes an appearance in two episodes of the British sitcom Derry Girls. In the third and final season, Neeson makes a fun cameo as he portrays Chief Constable Byers in two episodes.
