Best Spanish shows on Netflix: Cable Girls

Seasons: 5

Created by: Ramón Campos and Gema R. Neira

Starring: Blanca Suárez, Maggie Civantos, Nadia de Santiago, Ana María Polvorosa and Ana Fernández García

Cable Girls premiered on Netflix in April 2017 and had a series run of five seasons. The fifth and final season was split into two parts, with the first part released in February 2020 and the second part released in July 2020.

Cable Girls is the first Spanish original series produced by Netflix. The show won an Ondas Award, an Actors and Actresses Union Award, a Platino Award, and a GLAAD Media Award.

The period drama is set in the late 1920s in Madrid, Spain. It follows the lives of four young working women who become hired as switchboard operators at the National Telephone Company. Viewers watch the women navigate through love, friendships and the modern workplace.

Cable Girls was praised for its strong female-led cast, well-developed characters, gripping plot, and outstanding performances. However, what I loved the most about the show was the strong bond between the four women. The sisterhood was truly the heart of the show. It would easily remind you of your relationships with your own friends.

Cable Girls should be the next Spanish show you binge-watch if you enjoy period pieces focused on women empowerment!
