Based on the novel of the same name by author and screenwriter Jessica Knoll, Luckiest Girl Alive stars Mila Kunis as Ani FaNelli, a magazine writer who has meticulously crafted her life and persona to remake herself from the trauma in her past.

Although the movie isn’t the easiest watch based on the subject matter, the thriller will definitely be one of the top movies on Netflix this fall. Mila Kunis delivers one of her best performances yet as Ani. You won’t be able to look away from the star’s gripping portrayal.

But will the page-to-screen adaptation be back for another round with a sequel? After watching Luckiest Girl Alive, you will certainly have some lingering questions about Ani and you will definitely want to see more of Mila Kunis in this amazing role. Here’s what we know so far!

Warning: Mild spoilers ahead from Luckiest Girl Alive!

Will there be a Luckiest Girl Alive sequel?

As of the release of the movie in October 2022, Netflix hasn’t indicated any plans to turn the movie into a franchise. Since Luckiest Girl Alive is a standalone book with no follow-up (so far), it’s likely the movie will follow suit as well.

In the end of the film, Ani comes to terms with her past and finally has the chance to tell her story. She lands her dream job at The New York Times and her personal essay has touched millions of women with its honesty. When she’s confronted with a woman on the street who claims Ani is reveling in her “15 minutes of fame,” she breaks into the powerful persona she always wanted to embody.

While this ending suggests Ani’s story isn’t quite over yet, as there’s plenty of questions left open-ended about where she’s going next, that doesn’t necessarily entail a sequel to Luckiest Girl Alive to answer them. If anything, Netflix could adapt another Jessica Knoll book.

Would you watch a sequel to Luckiest Girl Alive, or do you hope Netflix adapts Knoll’s book The Favorite Sister as a movie or limited series? Sound off in the comments!
