It’s close to Halloween, meaning many people are looking for creepy content to watch—especially if it’s based on a true story. A Friend of the Family is a chilling new drama based on actual events related to the kidnapping of Jan Broberg, who McKenna Grace plays in the show.

Jan was kidnapped multiple times by a family friend named Robert Berchtold. The real story is bizarre; if it sounds familiar, you might have seen the Netflix documentary film on the feature. In real life, Jan Broberg’s mother, Mary Ann Broberg, documented the events in her book, Stolen Innocence: The Jan Broberg Story.

The real Jan Broberg has gone on to have a successful career as an actress, appearing in shows like Everwood and Criminal Minds. She also appeared in the Netflix doc.

Is A Friend of the Family on Netflix

No, the dramatization of Jan Broberg’s story will not be on Netflix because it is a Peacock series. However, it’s easy to see why people would be confused because Netflix did release a documentary on the Broberg family called Abducted in Plain Sight, which is still available to stream on the platform.

The award-winning documentary was directed by Skye Borgman, who has produced several true crime docs for Netflix, including I Just Killed My Dad, Girl in the Picture, and Sins of Our Mother.
