Fans of Netflix reality dating shows will be pleased to know that The Ultimatum universe is expanding! The Ultimatum: Queer Love is the next version of the show coming to the streaming service, and Netflix recently revealed that Sweet Magnolias star JoAnna Garcia Swisher would host.

The talented American actress is married to former professional baseball Nick Swisher, and she is best known for her work in shows like Are You Afraid of the Dark?, Freaks and Geeks, Once Upon a Time, and Reba. Of course, Netflix viewers know her as Maddie Townsend in Sweet Magnolias.

The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On premiered in April 2022. Netflix renewed the series for a second season ahead of its debut, announcing that season 2 would focus on queer relationships and feature a predominantly female cast.

Set up as a social experiment, The Ultimatum gives couples the chance to present, well, ultimatums. Each pair is given several weeks to decide if they want to get married or permanently break up and potentially date someone new (another contestant).

JoAnna Garcia Swisher to host The Ultimatum: Queer Love

According to the synopsis for The Ultimatum: Queer Love, “five new couples, made up of women and non-binary people,  are at a crossroads in their relationship. One partner is ready for marriage, the other may have doubts. An ultimatum is issued. And in just over eight weeks, each couple will either get married or get out, after they each choose new potential partners in a life-changing opportunity to get a glimpse of two different futures.”

The series comes from executive producers Chris Coelen, Eric Detwiler, Sarah Dillistone, and  Stephanie Boyriven and the production company Kinetic Content.

Nick and Vanessa Lachey hosted the show’s first season, which was fitting since the celebrity couple has been married for a long time. It’s interesting that JoAnna Garcia Swisher appears to be hosting season 2 on her own without her husband, but we’re still excited to see her take on the job!

The Ultimatum: Queer Love does not have a release date yet, but you can revisit The Ultimatum: Marry or Move On right now on Netflix.
