Is Emma Mackey (Maeve) returning to Sex Education? Season 4 casting confirms her status

It looks like Christmas came early this year because we have some really good news to share. All the returning cast members and some new members have been announced for Sex Education season 4. Get ready to jump for joy because we’ll see the return of Emma Mackey, who plays fan-favorite character Maeve in the upcoming fourth season!

After Sex Education was renewed for a fourth season back in September 2021, it had pretty much been radio silence up until April 2022, when one of the cast members announced their departure from the teen series. Sadly, Bridgerton star Simone Ashley announced that she would be exiting the series for good to focus on the period drama. Then, more cast members started announcing their departure, which was a real bummer. Patricia Allison (Ola), Tanya Reynolds (Lily), and Rakhee Thakrar (Emily) also joined the list of cast members not returning to Sex Education.

Of course, this made us nervous that many other cast members wouldn’t be coming back for Sex Education season 4. It didn’t help that reports were constantly coming out about Sex Education cast members booking roles in new projects. For example, Ncuti Gatwa had booked roles in Doctor Who and the upcoming film Barbie. Emma Mackey had also booked a role in Barbie. However, we received confirmation that Gatwa would be returning for the fourth season on Aug. 3. We were just waiting for confirmation that Mackey would be reprising her role.

Well, it looks like we finally have our confirmation according to the latest season 4 casting news.

Is Emma Mackey (Maeve) returning to Sex Education?

As reported by The Hollywood Reporter, Emma Mackey will reprise her role as Maeve in the upcoming Sex Education season 4. She, along with many others, will be returning to the teen series. There are also seven new cast members who will be joining the cast.

Production is currently in progress in Wales, U.K. A wrap date is unknown, but filming will likely run into the following year. As of now, our best release date prediction would be summer 2023.
