Finally, Virgin River season 4 is right around the corner! Fans of the romantic Netflix Original have been waiting on the edge of their seats after that season 3 cliffhanger that left us all jaw-dropped. In case you forget, Mel (Alexandra Breckenridge) broke the news to Jack (Martin Henderson) that she’s pregnant, but the bad news is that she doesn’t know who the father is. Now, thanks to the Virgin River season 4 trailer, we know that Jack and Mel are still together while trying to navigate their new normal.

We don’t know yet who the father of Mel’s baby is, and it seems like from the trailer that Jack doesn’t want to find out! Remember: Mel was married to a man named Mark (Daniel Gillies), who sadly died soon before she moved from Los Angeles to Virgin River. During a trip to L.A. in season 3, Mel does IVF treatment which is successful, leaving her unsure of who her child’s dad is. We’ll (hopefully) find out in Virgin River season 4!

Jack seemingly struggles with drinking in Virgin River season 4 trailer

And it looks like the mystery of Mel’s child’s father isn’t the only hurdle she and Jack will go through in the new season. Based on the trailer that just came out on July 8, it seems Jack is going through his own issues, namely alcohol abuse.

Of course, Jack’s the owner of a bar in Virgin River and we’ve seen him have a few drinks before. We also know that he’s struggled with PTSD. But the Virgin River season 4 trailer really makes it a point that his drinking might be a big problem. In one scene, we see Mel confront Jack and ask him why he’s drinking. “I honestly didn’t think having one or two drinks was a problem,” he responds.

In another quick clip, we see Preacher (Colin Lawrence) tell Jack that he needs to work through his issues and figure out what’s going on in his head. He doesn’t mention alcohol here, but when the scene is paired with another one later on in the trailer where Jack tells Mel he’ll stop drinking, it seems pretty obvious what Preacher could be referring to.

The trailer then gets more dramatic and suggests that Jack and Mel are on the rocks again, and we’re sure alcohol isn’t the only thing coming in between them. At the end of the video, Doc can be seen telling Mel, “Don’t give up on him.” Even though things might be hard for the couple, we doubt Mel could ever truly give up on Jack.

Virgin River season 4 is still over a week away and so we don’t have definitive confirmation that Jack has a drinking problem in the new episodes. However, the trailer heavily suggests that, so we’d be shocked if this isn’t a major storyline in the new season. Check out the trailer below.
