Most metal ever! Did Joseph Quinn really play guitar in Stranger Things season 4 volume 2?
Spoilers for Stranger Things season 4 volume 2 ahead!
Were you ready for that epic musical moment in the Stranger Things season 4 finale? I certainly wasn’t! The talented Eddie Munson certainly put on the most metal concert in the history of the world. And I think I can say most of us were as impressed as Dustin certainly was.
Thanks to his beloved instrument, Eddie and Dustin were able to find the perfect way to lure the bats away from the Creel House in the Upside Down so the rest of the group could get to an unprotected Vecna, and finally get rid of him once and for all.
“Chrissy, this is for you.” The bitchin’ performance of the song, “Master of Puppets” by Metallica was dedicated to the former cheerleader who Eddie had connected with in the first episode. Unfortunately, the sweet girl was Vecna’s first victim.
In movies and shows, it’s hard to tell when an actor is actually doing something, or whether the magic of television makes it look like they are. So, did the Eddie actor actually rock out and give us the most metal concert?
Did Joseph Quinn really play guitar in Stranger Things season 4 volume 2?
The answer is yes! Jospeh Quinn, aka the actor who played new fan-favorite Eddie, is as talented as his Stranger Things character.
In an interview with Entertainment Weekly, the creators of the Netflix hit, Ross and Matt Duffer (the Duffer Brothers), revealed that they cast Quinn not knowing he could actually play the guitar. But it was a nice surprise!
Here’s what Ross had to say:
"I just remember that we texted him or called him and said, ‘Hey, by the way, can you play guitar?’ And he’s pretty modest, so he’s like, ‘Yeah, I’m pretty good.’ He’s more than pretty good. He’s amazing."
The Duffers said the actor spent many hours trying to perfect the performance. Those of us who have seen the episode know that it’s in an important scene, and part three of the four phases the friend group came up with in their attempt to take Vecna down. And I have to say, the song choice was perfect! The lyrics and the tone it set really worked for the scene.
It’s such a shame we won’t be getting anymore musical moments from the lovely actor and character. Eddie really grew on me and became a favorite of mine. I’m still so heartbroken that he’s gone!
Stranger Things season 4 volume 2 is now streaming on Netflix.
