Does Eddie die in Stranger Things season 4? (Spoilers)

Each season of Stranger Things, there’s always at least one new character introduced who fans quickly fall in love with and become a breakout of the season. Without a doubt, Eddie has become that character for season 4.

Played by British actor Joseph Quinn, Eddie is a high school senior who oversees the Hawkins High School Dungeons and Dragons club, The Hellfire Club. While Eddie might present a bad boy and tough-guy demeanor, there’s so much more to the character than meets the eye!

Over the course of the season, the writers peel back the layers on Eddie who quickly emerged as a breakout favorite in Stranger Things season 4… which has many wondering whether they might need to be concerned about whether he’ll become the latest breakout favorite in a string of beloved characters to meet an untimely end.

Did Eddie die in Stranger Things season 4?

If you’re watching Stranger Things season 4 and are wondering whether you shouldn’t get too attached to Eddie, that’s probably a good move because Eddie sadly dies in the season finale.

Considering the bulk of the season’s deaths have been new characters, there had been a growing fear that Eddie might not survive the season; however,  Joseph Quinn seemed to suggest he’d be back for season 5 which made many think Eddie would make it out of the season alive. Unfortunately, that wasn’t the case.

Alas, though, Eddie died a hero’s death in the season 4 finale making him yet another in a growing list of breakout characters to be introduced and die in the same season.

How does Eddie die in Stranger Things?

During the battle with Vecna, Eddie and Dustin team up to serve as a distraction to lure the bat-like creatures in the Upside Down away from Creel House. They succeed in drawing the creatures to them, but it seems to be too much for them to handle.

The creatures quickly begin swarming them and they decide to retreat back to the real world. Dustin makes it through to the real world, but Eddie does not follow behind him looking to help Steve, Nancy and Robin by remaining in the Upside Down and drawing the bats away from Dustin in the process.

Soon the bat creatures surround Eddie and begin attacking him. Eddie puts up a valiant fight, but unfortunately, there are too many of the creatures for Eddie to fend off. While Dustin makes it back into the Upside Down and is able to be there for Eddie as he takes his final breaths, Eddie succumbs to his injuries from the bat attack and dies in Dustin’s arms.
