Damsel is a gorgeous dark fantasy film that reinvents the classic "damsel in distress" archetype. Directed by Juan Carlos Fresnadillo, what makes Damsel particularly impressive beyond its twisty premise is the genuine care and craft that went into creating this film and the set. 

Star Millie Bobby Brown continues proving her prowess as a leading lady and also performs her own stunts, which adds to the overall practicality. Whether it's the beautifully-rendered costuming or the actual cavernous sets created so Brown would have physical things to hold, Rclimb, and traverse, Damsel just looks fantastic. 

Even when the script isn't as strong or fleshed out as you might hope, the movie-making magic is in full effect here, effortlessly transporting viewers all the way from the golden realm of Aurea to the dank depths of a dragon's lair. 

Brown portrays a headstrong heroine who agrees to an arranged marriage in order to save her people. But only too late does she learn that her new husband comes from a long line of royals willing to sacrifice their princesses to a ferocious dragon in order to satisfy their part of a blood bargain.
