Love and Gelato ending explained: Who does Lina end up with? (spoilers)

Love and Gelato is a sweet and swoonworthy new romantic movie perfect for kickstarting Netflix’s summer of love.

Spoilers ahead for Love and Gelato

During a summer trip to Rome, Lina (Susanna Skaggs) explores the beauty of the country in the aftermath of her mother’s death. Throughout her journey, Lina tries to figure out what her mother wanted her to learn about herself, love and the world during her time spent abroad, with help from her godmother Francesca (Valentina Lodovini).

She meets her two different admirers while there, the adorable chef Lorenzo (Tobia de Angelis) and the wealthy and charming Alessandro (Saul Nanni). But are either of them right for her?

Love and Gelato ending: Does Lina end up with Lorenzo or Alessandro?

Lina actually chooses herself rather than pick either of the men she romances throughout the movie. However, the ending does imply that she might end up with Lorenzo. After taking a gap year to remain in Italy a while longer, she and Lorenzo meet up again.

He is finishing up his time at the culinary academy in Paris and decides to take over Greta’s place after she retires. Then he invites Lina to come over for dinner and, of course, gelato, at his Nonna’s. The film ends with them riding off on Lina’s bike.

Love and Gelato ending: Is Howard Lina’s biological father?

Throughout Love and Gelato, Lina toys with the possibility of finding her father. It’s hinted that it could be Howard (Owen McDonnell), but we ultimately find out that Hadley slept with her photography professor. Lina tries to find him and does, but during a weird meeting she just steals a portrait of her mother and leaves. She later tells Howard he was a jerk but the whole thing is kind of strange. I digress.

However, she also finds a “love lock” on the bridge that has Hadley and Howard’s name on it, showing Lina that her mom truly did love Howard as he loved her. In the end, Howard offers to be seen as Lina’s adopted father and they share a sweet moment together.
