Are you enjoying Stranger Things? Well, we’re guessing if you’ve made it to this piece you’ve just begun your binge-watch and your curiosity has been piqued about what happens at 53 minutes and 5 seconds in Fast Times after watching that incredible Steve and Robin scene!

Warning: Mild Stranger Things season 4 spoilers ahead. If you’re looking to avoid spoilers of any kind, please proceed with caution.

In the season 4 premiere, life seems to have returned to normal for our favorite citizens of Hawkins and spring has officially sprung! Across the first several minutes of the season, we quickly catch up with various characters including Steve and Robin.

While giving Robin a ride to school, Steve gives us a quick update on his love life which pretty much involves a rotation of meaningless flings. When Robin tries to put Steve in his place and says she’s stressing about the pep rally, Steve turns the table and says he knows the real reason she’s in a frenzy: Vickie.

After trying to encourage Robin to take her own advice and put herself out there, Robin explains to Steve the sad reality of the times in that if she asks out the wrong girl she could suddenly become the town pariah. Steve totally gets it but is adamant that Vickie isn’t the wrong girl telling Robin he knows this because she returned Fast Times paused at 53 minutes and 5 seconds.

So what exactly happens at 53 minutes and 5 seconds in Fast Times at Ridgemont High?

What happens at 53 minutes and 5 seconds in Fast Times?

When Steve mentioned Vickie returning Fast Times paused at 53 minutes and 5 seconds, it’s a reference to a particular scene in the film involving Phoebe Cates’ character, Linda Barrett.

In the scene in question, Cates’ character removes her bikini top after taking a dip in the pool as she comes on to her friend Stacy’s older brother, Brad. It’s then revealed that the scene took place in Brad’s imagination as Linda walks in on him in an awkward situation. It’s a scene that features full-frontal nudity which is where the reference Steve makes in the Stranger Things premiere about comes into play.

His not-so-subtle assumption is that Vickie returning the film paused shortly after the above scene is because “Vickie likes boobies.” As he tells Robin, “know who pauses Fast Times at 53 minutes and 5 seconds? People who like boobies.”
