Two years ago, I wrote an article at our sister site Show Snob about why I felt that Horizon Zero Dawn deserved a television adaptation, and now my dreams are coming true!

On May 26, Deadline confirmed that Netflix would be making a Horizon Zero Dawn series based on the Playstation action-adventure game. The series is still very early in development, so we don’t have too much to report on it yet, but it’s very exciting.

Aloy will be far from the first video game protagonist to make her way over to Netflix as the streaming platform already has a successful franchise based around The Witcher and is currently developing an Assassin’s Creed project, too. Other video game franchises either already released or in development at the streamer include Resident Evil, Castlevania, The Cuphead Show and Bioshock.

A Horizon Zero Dawn series is in early development at Netflix

Horizon Zero Dawn is an epic open-world game developed by Guerilla Games. The first game is set in the post-apocalyptic United States. In this fictional universe, robotic creatures known as Machines have taken over. Young huntress Aloy ventures out into the world to uncover her past and save the world in the process.

The first game came out in 2017 and was recently followed by the highly-anticipated sequel, Horizon Forbidden West, which released earlier this year. Given the depth of the storylines in both games, the Netflix series will have plenty of content to use for the show. My only fear is that it won’t get a big enough budget to do justice to its source material.

For Sony, Horizon Zero Dawn just marks another chapter in their growing roster of video game adaptations, which includes The Last of Us series in the works at HBO, God of War at Amazon Prime Video, Twisted Metal at Peacock and a Ghost of Tsushima film.
