The highly-anticipated South Korean remake of the hit original series Money Heist is coming to Netflix soon. Here’s everything we know so far about Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area, including the release date, cast, and so much more!

Money Heist is easily one of the best Netflix original series and there’s just no debating this. The Spanish heist show consisted of five seasons and garnered several accolades over its run. The fifth and final season wrapped up in December 2021, and fans were not ready to say goodbye. Fortunately, Netflix had already announced the South Korean adaptation in 2020, so fans had the remake to look forward to.

But when Netflix announced the South Korean remake, the show didn’t have an official title yet. Now, a title has been revealed, a release date has been announced, and a full cast list has been released.

Get ready to mark your calendars because the heist crime drama series is coming to Netflix on Friday, June 24, 2022, at 12:00 a.m. PT/3:00 a.m. ET. The first season consists of 12 episodes, with each episode having a runtime of 60 minutes.

Kim Hong-sun directed the heist series. You might know Kim Hong-sun from his work on the K-Drama Black. Ryu Yong-jae wrote the scripts along with Choe Sung-jun and Kim Hwan-chae. The series was produced by BH Entertainment and Contents Zium.

Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area synopsis

Since it’s a remake of the Spanish series, you can expect the plot to be similar but just set in a different setting.

Variety provided us with the synopsis and we shared it right below:

"Money Heist: Korea” takes place as North and South Korea are on the verge of a peaceful reunification after nearly 80 years of division. But as the nations prepare to print a brand-new unified currency, a heist is hatched. A genius strategist known as the Professor assembles a motley crew of top-tier thieves from north and south in an attempt to steal the new currency straight from the mint."

On Jan. 17, Netflix released the first teaser for Money Heist: Korea – Joint Economic Area. In the teaser, the official title is revealed, and we’re introduced to the main cast.

On April 28, Netflix released a second teaser showing the cast suited up and in character. We also got to see how the masks would look. Lastly, the official release date was revealed.

On May 19, Netflix dropped another teaser trailer. In the trailer, viewers get to see a little sneak peek of what’s to come in the new original series.
