Though all eyes are on Netflix right now after news came out that the platform reportedly lost 200,000 subscribers in just the first quarter of the year, it still goes without saying that it’s the biggest streaming service in the world. And that’s for good reason. The platform has taken so many risks and gone above and beyond with their original content, receiving prestigious awards and amassing huge fanbases. So much so, it’s not surprising they’d choose to develop spin-offs for some of their most popular shows.

From Money Heist to The Witcher and more, here are Netflix shows with super exciting spin-offs on the way!

Money Heist spin-off

Money Heist (a.k.a. La Casa De Papel) was one of the most popular Netflix Original shows when it was on. The five seasons received critical acclaim and fans who watched it got totally sucked into the world of robberies and crime. The show chronicles epic heists organized by a character named the Professor (Álvaro Morte), with time-jumps and flashbacks throughout to make things more interesting.

Money Heist became a cultural phenomenon, winning an International Emmy Award for Best Drama Series and making fans dress up in red jumpsuits for Halloween year after year.

Because of its popularity, it didn’t really come as a surprise when the spin-off was announced in Nov. 2021. According to Deadline, the series, titled Berlin, will follow the titular character played by Pedro Alonso. We don’t know when the show will take place in the Money Heist universe, but we know it’s set to premiere on Netflix in 2023. We can’t wait!

The Witcher spin-off

Netflix wasted no time ordering spin-offs for The Witcher, with an animated show called The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf premiering in Aug. 2021 and a prequel miniseries titled The Witcher: Blood Origin on its way. The original series debuted on the streamer in late 2019 and was an instant hit. Fans of the book series of the same name couldn’t wait to get their live-action adaptation and see Geralt of Rivia (Henry Cavill) on the small screen.

The Witcher: Blood Origin takes place 1,200 years before The Witcher, according to Entertainment Weekly, and will focus on a pre-colonized world where the first Witcher is created. Michelle Yeoh, Sophia Brown, and Laurence O’Fuarain, are among the cast members.

Bridgerton spin-off

Bridgerton might just be the most popular show on Netflix, maybe right behind Stranger Things. The Regency Era romance took the platform by storm when it premiered in late 2020 and it was a no-brainer that it was renewed for a second season. Flash-forward to March 2021 and it was announced that Bridgerton seasons 3 and 4 would be happening, too.

The streamer really has faith in this show (and for good reason!), because it also ordered a prequel series all about Queen Charlotte (Golda Rosheuvel). As of right now, the show is untitled, but it began filming in London on April 19, 2022. Though it might be a while until it premieres, we’re hoping to get an official title and some plot details sooner than later.

That ’70s Show spin-off

That ’70s Show isn’t a Netflix Original, but fans of the stoner comedy have good news to celebrate because its spinoff, That ’90s Show, is coming to the streamer! The original series is a favorite of so many, airing on Fox from 1998 to 2006. The show follows high schooler Eric Foreman (Topher Grace) and his group of quirky friends navigating friendships, romances, family, and everything else a typical teenager in the ’70s went through.

People were so excited to hear that a prequel spin-off would be on the way, and it’s been confirmed that Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp, who played Red Foreman and Kitty Foreman, respectively, will be reprising their roles! That ’90s Show does not have a release date yet but we hope we get that news soon.

On My Block spin-off

On My Block was a staple show for Netflix throughout its four seasons before ending in 2021. The coming-of-age show follows a group of friends as they enter high school in an underprivileged Los Angeles town. The drama has been praised for focusing on minorities and how it dealt with topics like deportation, gang violence, and poverty.

Though fans were sad to see the series come to an end, we have more to look forward to as a spin-off called Freeridge is in the works. The title of the new show is the name of the town from On My Block, and according to Deadline, it will serve as a continuation of the original show but with new characters who “may or may not have unleashed a deadly curse kicking off an unforgettable adventure.” Sounds like a bit of a different vibe than On My Block and we’re excited to hear more.

Freeridge doesn’t have a release date yet but we’ll be on the lookout for more details.

Jupiter’s Legacy spin-off

Based on the comic book series of the same name by Mark Millar and Frank Quitely, Jupiter’s Legacy is a Netflix show you might not have heard of. That’s because it was canceled pretty quickly after its release in 2021. The one-season show follows a man named Sheldon (Josh Duhamel), who, alongside his brother and a few others, gain superpowers.

Surprisingly, though Jupiter’s Legacy got the axe about a month after it came out, a spin-off called Supercrooks is coming. Deadline reports that Netflix is creating an anthology universe, so if all goes well we can expect more spin-offs from this world in the future. In Nov. 2021, an anime adaptation called Super Crooks came out.

Little details are known about Supercrooks‘ release but we hope it’s more successful than its predecessor.

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before spin-off

I’m cheating a little with this one because To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before is a movie series, but there’s a TV show spin-off on the way that fans are super excited about so I figured I’d include it! The original movies were a massive hit for Netflix, coming out in three installments between 2018 and 2021. They follow a high schooler named Lara Jean (Lana Condor), whose life gets turned upside down after she writes letters to all her former crushes and her little sister Kitty (Anna Cathcart) sends them.

The movies are based on books by Jenny Han, and she will serve as the creator of the upcoming spin-off, XO, Kitty. As evidenced by the name, the upcoming show will star Lara Jean’s little sister, with Cathcart reprising her role. Here’s the synopsis for XO, Kitty, according to Deadline:

"In the series, teen matchmaker Kitty Song Covey (Cathcart) thinks she knows everything there is to know about love. But when she moves halfway across the world to reunite with her long-distance boyfriend, she’ll soon realize that relationships are a lot more complicated when it’s your own heart on the line."

If XO, Kitty comes out in 2023, it’ll be one of the biggest shows of the year.
