Netflix’s latest book adaptation is Heartstopper, a new series based on the graphic novel of the same name by Alice Oseman. If you loved To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, Love, Simon or Love, Victor, Heartstopper will likely become your new obsession.

The series follows Charlie Spring and Nick Nelson. Charlie is an openly gay boy who was bullied once his sexuality was revealed to the whole school and Nick is a kind-hearted rugby player who is pretty popular at school and as far as he knows, he’s straight. Although, he’s never really thought about it.

Before this current school year, the two boys didn’t know much about each other. Now they share a class and start up a friendship, but that friendship soon turns into something more.

But who is starring in this new Netflix show? Let’s find out.

Heartstopper cast

The two main roles are played by The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society’s Kit Connor and newcomer Joe Locke as Nick and Charlie, respectively. The rest of the cast of Heartstopper includes:

  • Momo Yeung
  • Joseph Balderrama
  • Sebastian Croft
  • Yasmin Finner
  • William Gao
  • Jenny Walser
  • Fisayo Akinade
  • Rhea Norwood
  • Cormac Hyde-Corrin

You can see Joe Locke, Kit Connor, and the rest of the cast in the official trailer for the new Netflix series here.

As someone who has read the books and watched the trailer, it looks like the show represents the books perfectly. The books are impossibly cute and heartwarming and this looks like it has the exact same vibes. Joe Locke could not look more like Charlie from the books and Kit Connor shows the same kindness as Nick.

And if you are a fan of the books, you’ll be happy to know that the author is the creator and writer of all eight episodes. It’s always a good sign when the original creator is on board for an adaptation.

The director of all the episodes, Euros Lyn, also looks promising as he has also worked on Daredevil, Broadchurch and Black Mirror. While those are certainly different than Hearstopper, he will definitely be able to give the sadder moments the gravity they need.

If you are a fan of teen romances with some drama added in for good measure, you need to add Heartstopper to your queue.
