Metal Lords ending explained: Does Skullflower win Battle of the Bands?
By Mads Lennon
Metal Lords is a new teen comedy film now streaming on Netflix. Written by Game of Thrones vet D.B. Weiss, many fans have been anticipating this movie because of its focus on death metal music. The movie even features a couple of fun cameos for genre fans. While not one of the biggest film releases of the year, Metal Lords promises to be a heartwarming coming-of-age film.
This irreverent comedy follows two teenagers, Kevin (Jaeden Martell) and Hunter (Adrian Greensmith), determined to win the Battle of the Bands contest. However, they need more band members and its slim pickings at their high school, where most teenagers care more about Justin Bieber than they do Black Sabbath. Can they find someone else to join their group and win the contest?

Why does the band change its name to Skullflower?
For most of the movie, Kevin and Hunter’s band name is initially “Skullf*cker.” But they are forced to change the name before going onstage for the Battle of the Bands after a teacher sees the curse word written on the bass drum and various other equipment. Emily grabs some art supplies and alters the name and logo to make it more family-friendly.
Does Emily join Skullflower in Metal Lords?
Yes, Emily (Isis Hainsworth) eventually joins Skullflower at the end of the movie, just in time for their performance in the Battle of the Bands concert.
Do Emily and Kevin get together in Metal Lords?
Yes, Emily and Kevin get together and stay together through the movie’s end. As far as I know, Emily never finds out that Kevin almost hooked up with Kendall (Analesa Fisher).
Does Skullflower win Battle of the Bands in Metal Lords?
Unfortunately, no. The band does not win the contest. While the song “Machinery of Torment” proves to be a huge hit with the audience, Hunter breaks his leg onstage, resulting in an early end to their performance.
It’s totally metal, and the entire fiasco lands Skullflower in the headlines with a front-page news story. But Mollycoddle wins the overall contest. Surprisingly, Hunter is okay with it in the end, though he, Emily and Kevin all agree to keep practicing. I’m sure they’ll compete again next year.
What song does Skullflower perform at the contest?
Skullflower performs an original song called “Machinery of Torment.” The song was composed for the movie by Rage Against the Machine’s Tom Morello, who also executive produced the film.
Does Metal Lords have a post-credits scene?
The end of the movie shows Skullflower practicing while the credits roll. After that, there are no additional scenes, so don’t anticipate a mid or post-credits scene at the end of Metal Lords.
