This month kicks off with the dark, disturbing tale of Jimmy Savile, a once-beloved television icon who was allegedly later revealed to be one of Europe’s most prolific sexual abusers. Netflix will explore this horrifying story in Jimmy Savile: A British Horror Story, releasing this Wednesday, April 6.

A British Horror Story is billed as a limited series and looks to be divided into two parts, both of which will be available to watch on Wednesday. If you plan to watch it, keep in mind that it is rated TV-MA for child abuse references, sexual violence references, language and smoking.

What is Jimmy Savile: A British Horror Story about?

Even though Savile rose to prominence quickly and became a beloved icon in the entertainment industry—even being knight by the Queen and dubbed a national treasure—by the time he died in 2011, the dark, disturbing truth of his secret life came to light.

After Savile’s death, it was revealed that he had been a prolific and predatory sex offender, abusing hundreds of people, some as young as 5. Scotland Yard conducted independent investigations into Savile. To date, more than 450 allegations of sexual assault have been made against him.

A British Horror Story will examine this story via archival footage, exploring Savile’s relationship with the British people and the media to understand how he fooled everyone for so long.
