It’s a new month which means new Netflix movies are coming soon! There are plenty of films to add to your watchlist this month, including some older films that Netflix has licensed and added to the catalog. But in terms of new releases, we’ve got a Judd Apatow film, several documentaries, Metal Lords and the new horror film Choose or Die.

Following the release of notable films like The Adam Project and Trust No One: The Hunt for the Crypto King, Netflix is continuing to make movies with big-name stars and true crime documentaries. We’ll see a lot more of that in the month of April, along with international Netflix movies like Dancing on Glass and Rumspringa.

Best Netflix movies April 2022

But should you add all of the new Netflix movies to your watch list? That’s a question we all wonder whenever Netflix releases their list of what’s coming out next. We’ll get to the bottom of what is worth watching as soon as it releases and the movies you can skip, at least for now, starting with the month’s biggest movie release: The Bubble.

The Bubble

Skip! Unfortunately, The Bubble is a bust. This Judd Apatow flick is bloated and unfunny beyond a few entertaining celebrity cameos. It’s also a stark reminder of all the worst parts of the pandemic and considering we’re still living through the pandemic, it’s not the kind of escapism most of us are looking for when it comes to enjoying a comedy. There are much better comedies on Netflix.

Apollo 10 1/2: A Space Age Childhood

Watch! Academy Award-nominated filmmaker Richard Linklater returns with this deeply moving film about the first moon landing during the summer of 1969. The story is told from two perspectives, the astronaut and mission control and a kid growing up in Houston, Texas. Linklater was inspired by his own life to create this heartfelt film.

Battle: Freestyle

Skip! Battle: Freestyle is a new release movie about a Norweigian dance competition. The film is set in Paris and features Lisa Teige. There’s nothing wrong with this movie, but unless you’re really into dance films you can probably skip it for now and save it for a day when there aren’t other big releases to watch.

Return to Space

Skip! If you’re like me and absolutely sick to death of hearing about SpaceX and Elon Musk, then you’ll want to skip this documentary film about Musk’s two-decade efforts to resurrect America’s space travel ambitions. If you do like learning about space, NASA and astronauts at the International Space Station, then check this one out, but otherwise, you can skip it. Streaming April 7.

Abercrombie & Fitch

White Hot: The Rise & Fall of Abercrombie & Fitch

Watch! One of several new true crime documentaries releasing in April, White Hot chronicles the rise and fall of the popular American retailer Abercrombie & Fitch, highlighting some of the company’s exclusionary practices. Streaming April 19.

Yaksha: Ruthless Operations

Watch! It’s going to be a while before we get to see Squid Game season 2, but you can catch stars Park Hae-soo and Sul Kyung-gu in this new movie coming out soon. The film is about an assignment to investigate a Black Ops team and its notorious leader as an upstanding prosecutor steps into a deadly war between spies. Streaming April 8.

Metal Lords

Skip! Let’s be honest, the mention of D.B. Weiss and his frequent collaborator David Benioff leaves a bad taste in everyone’s mouth these days after the colossal mess they made of Game of Thrones.

And that’s not even touching on how the showrunners handled female nudity and just their general lack of care toward Game of Thrones fans and the source material. Weiss wrote and produced Metal Lords, and some will skip it just because of his involvement. That said, the cast is great, so it might be worth watching at some point if you’re a fan of musical comedies. Streaming April 8.

Dancing on Glass

Watch! Dancing on Glass is a Spanish drama about the National Classical Ballet. When the star commits suicide, Irene is chosen to take her place in the company’s production of Giselle and soon finds herself the target of all the girls’ jealousy and cruelty. If you’re into female-driven dramas and you like shows like the Netflix series Tiny Pretty Things, then this is a great pick. Streaming April 8.

Silverton Siege

Watch! Silverton Siege is an exciting action thriller coming to Netflix later this month. Based on a true story, the movie is about a bank that was held hostage after an anti-apartheid strike went wrong. If you’ve seen the trailer for this movie, you can see why it looks like a great movie, especially for those who like thrillers! Streaming April 27.

Choose or Die

Watch! Choose or Die is a new Netflix Original film coming soon to the streaming service. If you love horror, you won’t want to miss out on this movie, especially since horror icon Robert Englund is in it playing himself! Horror Netflix movies can be hit or miss, but we’ve got a good feeling that this one will be tons of fun. Streaming April 15.

Bubble

Watch! Not to be confused with the previously mentioned movie The Bubble, Bubble is one of the anime Netflix movies coming to the streaming service in April. Set in Tokyo after bubbles that break the laws of gravity rain down on the world, the city has become a playground for people who have lost their families.

Hibiki, a young ace known for his dangerous playstyle, makes a reckless move one day and plummets into the gravity-bending sea. His life is saved by Uta, a girl with mysterious powers. Their encounter leads to a revelation that will change the world. Streaming April 28.

Honeymoon with My Mother

Skip! Nothing against what I’m sure will be a charming Spanish comedy, but how many times have we seen movies about an annoying or overbearing mom? Honeymoon with My Mother is about José Luis, a man who has been stood up at the altar. As if that isn’t bad enough, his persistent mother invites herself onto his honeymoon so they can still go and not waste the money. Streaming April 29.

Rumspringa

Watch! This heartfelt German film is about a young Amish man on his rite of passage. As he travels to Berlin, he connects with his roots, falls in love, and must make a big decision. Since we don’t get many movies about the Amish culture and traditions, Rumspringa might be one worth checking out. Streaming April 29.

The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe: The Unheard Tapes

Watch! Another documentary releasing in April is The Mystery of Marilyn Monroe: The Unheard Tapes, which will explore the untold story of Marilyn Monroe’s tragic death. Her death has spawned countless conspiracies and rumors over the years. In this new film, her final weeks and days are pieced together from previously unheard recordings of those who knew her best. Streaming April 27.
