Netflix’s latest true crime documentary is Trust No One: The Hunt for the Crypto King, following the mysterious case of the Canadian cryptocurrency exchange QuadrigaCX and the supposed death of founder Gerald “Gerry” Cotten.

Throughout the documentary, you’ll notice an unidentified man wearing a mask. He goes by the moniker QCXINT and hides his voice to ensure no one can tell who he is as he provides details about the investigation. QCXINT played a critical role in the online investigations into Quadriga and Gerry Cotten, but his masked presence makes him a documentary subject of interest to viewers.

Below we’ll look into QCXINT, who he is and the role he plays in the documentary and story at large.

The Hunt for the Crypto King: Who is QCXINT?

One of the leading documentary subjects is a man who goes by the moniker QCXINT (Quadriga Intelligence). His true identity is never given away, but he says he is a cryptocurrency investor who used Quadriga on and off in 2018, ultimately losing over six figures from the website.

Since he spearheaded the online investigation into Quadriga and found Gerry Cotten, QCXINT does whatever he can to protect his identity. That’s why we only see him wearing a mask throughout the entirety of the documentary film.

He also uses a vocal modifier to disguise his voice, although certain camera angles show parts of his face through the mask’s eye holes. But unless you know him in person, it’s not enough to identify him.

QCXINT was an asset to the investigation into Quadriga and Gerry Cotten. He previously published his findings online. In a previous Vanity Fair piece, he was asked about the lack of police activity on this case, specifically from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP).

"“It’s just completely out of their wheelhouse. I spent a couple of hours on the phone explaining the basics to an RCMP investigator and came away feeling like he’d be much more comfortable with a dead body, a loaded gun, and a trail of blood.”"

It also looks like this is his official Reddit account, under u/QCXINT, where he posted many of his findings regarding Gerry Cotten and his fraudulent activities.
