What is Trust No One: The Hunt for the Crypto King about?

Gerry Cotten founded QuadrigaCX, a cryptocurrency exchange that made it easy for fellow crypto users to cash in and cash out with bitcoin transactions. But then one day, people started to realize they could not get their money back from the exchange. Shortly after, the website went down. Gerry Cotten was announced dead under mysterious circumstances—over $250 million of customers’ funds were missing, and Gerry supposedly took the passwords to his grave.

A group of Quadriga users started discussing the missing money and strange circumstances surrounding Gerry’s death in an online forum called Telegram and soon realized that things were not adding up. Many believed Gerry committed an elaborate “exit scam,” faking his death and making off with the money.

The documentary explores whether or not that could be true, in addition to digging into Quadriga’s shady business practices and Gerry’s circle of friends, including his wife. How involved were they, if at all?

Here is the official Netflix synopsis:

"In the paranoid world of cryptocurrency, there’s only one rule – Trust No One. This is the thrilling story of their investigation into a dark world where no one and nothing is what it seems. Will they be able to unravel the mystery at the heart of Quadriga, find Gerry Cotten, and finally get their money back?"
