Happy Women’s History Month! For this special month, we decided to celebrate all the amazing women that are in some of our favorite Netflix anime series.

Whether these women were pivotal to saving the world or whether they were living their best lives unapologetically, we wanted to take the time to appreciate the many great female protagonists we have thus far.

Some you may know and some you may end up dying to know more about. All in all, this list is certainly worth reading!

Best Netflix anime for Women’s History Month

If there was a way we could fit a hundred characters on this list, we absolutely would. For now, we’ll settle with highlighting six of the best Netflix anime with amazing female characters. Check it out below!

Great Pretender – Abigail Jones

First on our list is one of the best to ever do it, Abigail Jones.

In Great Pretender, Abigail is known for her physical ability, great acting skills, and her beauty. However, to us, she’s known as the woman who was able to remain strong despite having such an unfortunate upbringing. Losing both of her parents and having to abandon her ballet dreams to become a child soldier may have left an emotional scar of two on Abigail, but she still holds her head up high in order to stop any other innocent person from experiencing the same trauma she went through.

What’s more, she remains exceptionally kind throughout the series, even if her path crosses with an enemy. This aspect of hers solidifies her as one of the most dynamic women in modern anime.

Our stone-faced yet crazed scammer is absolutely a force to be reckoned with, and we couldn’t be any more grateful to have her.

Komi Can’t Communicate – Komi Shouko

We couldn’t possibly go further in this list without mentioning Komi Shouko from the beloved Netflix anime series Komi Can’t Communicate.

Komi is quite reserved, so much so it keeps her from properly communicating with her fellow peers. Instead of spending the rest of her school career living in fear, she took it upon herself to not remain complacent in her anxiety.

With the little courage she had, Komi came up with a goal to make 100 friends by the end of high school, and though her journey thus far came with tons of bumps along the way, she is still determined to achieve what she initially thought was impossible.

Anime fans fell in love with Komi because they saw themselves in this character. We hope that as Komi continues to chase after her goals, fans become even more motivated to do the impossible.

Eden – Sara Grace

Eden‘s Sara Grace still leaves goosebumps on our arms to this very day.

Her determination to uncover the truth behind why humanity has disappeared was absolutely riveting, especially considering the fact that she was living a fairly carefree life with the two kind robots who took her in as their own.

Being content with the ways things were could have been the path she chose. However, Sara couldn’t possibly stand by and do nothing. Through great lengths, Sara learned more about her past. It’s because of this, she was able to secure a better future for not just herself, but for those who would eventually come after her. Simply put, her selflessness saved the world.

Sara is the trailblazer we can all draw inspiration from. Hopefully, one day, we can be as relentlessly brave as she is.

Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure – Jolyne Cujoh

With the way millions of anime fans all over the world responded to the first-ever female Jojo stand user, there was absolutely no way we couldn’t give a special shout out to Jolyne Cujoh.

This Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stone Ocean character is admired by many for her zeal and for her personality similar to that of her father, Jotaro Kujo, but we love her mostly because she’ll do whatever it takes to make wrongs right.

Jolyne was falsely imprisoned for a crime she definitely didn’t do, but no matter how many times she tried to plead her case, her innocence was never proven. Rather than sulk, she went on to create the justice she desired to see in her life, even if she had to take on enemies who were much stronger than she was.

Fighting to get the top spot doesn’t come easy for anyone, which is why Jolyne finding strength in numbers to achieve her mission is another reason why we love her dearly. In the end, Jolyne proved that women can be strong whether by themselves or in numbers. Not a day goes by where she isn’t regarded as a powerful character.

Violet Evergarden – Violet Evergarden

Violet Evergarden is revered as a character who taught us all how to move forward, even if the road ahead looks exceedingly grim.

In Violet Evergarden, we see our protagonist suffer greatly, having not only lost her arms but also having lost the love of her life in a brutal war. Her rough past led her to have little to no direction in life. She didn’t know what she desired and didn’t know what she enjoyed because she was raised to be an emotionless tool in the military. But through the uplifting words from those around her who grew to love her unconditionally, she was able to discover her true passion: helping others.

Violet being bold enough to take that first step gave many people, including ourselves, hope — a hope for a better future and a hope that we will become the best versions of ourselves so long as we’re willing to take that first step.

Kotaro Lives Alone – Mizuki Akitomo

Last but certainly not least, we celebrate Mizuki Akitomo from the brand new anime series Kotaro Lives Alone.

It’s because of Mizuki’s intelligence Shin Karino and Isamu Tamaru were able to understand Kotaro Sato’s unspoken language. It’s because of her mental prowess that she was able to decipher what seemingly up-to-no-good characters’ true motives were. And, most importantly, it’s because of her wisdom she knew when to leave her toxic relationship. Doing so not only set a good example for Kotaro but also left us with a very important lesson that we will cherish forever.

Undoubtedly, Mizuki serves as a reminder that women can be as smart as they are beautiful. If she didn’t have to choose between the two, then we certainly don’t have to either.

From Abigail Jones to Mizuki Akitomo, we hope that you were encouraged by the traits and feats of all these amazing women. If so, head on over to Netflix to appreciate these female characters.
