American Crime Story is leaving Netflix in March 2022

Netflix has given a removal notice for seasons 1-2 of American Crime Story. Unfortunately, the first two seasons of the true-crime series will be leaving Netflix in March 2022.

American Crime Story is the second installment in the American Story media franchise, following the hit anthology horror series American Horror Story. The Ryan Murphy-produced series presents self-contained stories about America’s most infamous criminals and the crimes they committed.

Each season of the true-crime series is broadcast on FX and then makes its way to Netflix about a year later. There have been three seasons so far, but only the first two seasons are on Netflix. The third season titled Impeachment: American Crime Story was expected to arrive on Netflix sometime in the summer or fall this year, but with the first two seasons leaving soon, it’s not looking likely.

When is American Crime Story leaving Netflix?

As reported by What’s on Netflix, the first two seasons of the anthology series are slated to leave Netflix on Tuesday, March 1, 2022. So the last day you can watch both seasons is Feb. 28.

Why is American Crime Story leaving Netflix?

It all comes down to Disney no longer wanting its shows and movies on its competitor’s platform. Disney basically owns the true-crime series, and since the licensing deal has expired, Disney chose not to renew the contract.

There is a lot of Disney-controlled content leaving Netflix in March, such as Jessica Jones, Iron Fist, The Punisher, Daredevil, Luke Cage, The Defenders, and Soundtrack. You can expect more Disney content to leave the streamer throughout the year.

Where will American Crime Story stream next?

Netflix has not announced the show’s new streaming home, but it’ll most likely head to Hulu. The series is rated TV-MA, so we couldn’t see it landing on Disney+. However, Hulu carries most of Disney’s mature content, so this would make the most sense.
