Sweet Magnolias season 2: Did you catch Nick Swisher’s surprise cameo?

Sweet Magnolias season 2 proved to be quite an eventful season for Maddie and Cal, whose relationship went through some major ups and downs across the season. From exchanging I love yous for the first time to the unearthing of darker secrets from Cal’s past, oh and that shocking season-ending cliffhanger, there was a lot for Cal and Maddie fans to digest this season.

Among the many firsts the couple checked off their list this season was Cal offering Maddie a glimpse of his life before moving to Serenity when he invited her to be his date to a charity gala for St. Jude’s Children Hospital.

It’s here that Maddie gets the chance to brush elbows with some figures from Cal’s past and it’s also an event used by the writers to have a bit of fun by sneaking in a cheeky cameo involving a charming partygoer played by former MLB outfielder and first baseman Nick Swisher.

Is Nick Swisher in Sweet Magnolias?

If you’re watching Sweet Magnolias season 2, episode 8 and wondering why the partygoer who bumps into Maddie and tries to steal her away before Cal swoops in looks so familiar that’s because he happens to be played by Nick Swisher, husband of Sweet Magnolias star JoAnna Garcia Swisher!

While at the charity event, Maddie bumps into a smooth-talking party guest who quickly pays her a compliment and flashes her a flirtatious smile before Cal steers her away to spend some alone time with his date. The smiling gentleman as he is credited in the episode’s end credits is played by Swisher’s husband Nick Swisher in what might be one of the most fun cameos we’ve seen in some time.

Considering Nick Swisher is best known for his MLB career, we love that Netflix snuck an appearance from him into the episode set against the backdrop of a charity event for St. Jude as the Swishers are both St. Jude celebrity ambassadors.
