Sweet Magnolias season 2 arrived on Feb. 4, 2022, but after the shocking way in which the new season ended, it’s no surprise at all to see that fans are already questioning what’s to come next for the beloved romantic drama.

Having first debuted in May 2020, Sweet Magnolias was quickly renewed for a second season after a breakout first season. The hope was that season 2 would arrive sometime in 2021 but due to covid-related delays season 2 wasn’t able to release until 2022.

Now that season 2 has dropped, all eyes are on what’s next for the beloved series and whether a third season is coming.

Is Sweet Magnolias canceled?

Thankfully, Netflix has not yet canceled Sweet Magnolias. Although fans had to wait a few months longer than anticipated to hear about the fate of their favorite show, we can finally rest easy knowing that the sun hasn’t set on Serenity. The show will be back for another season!

We hadn’t really been concerned about Netflix canceling Sweet Magnolias since the second season had such a popular showing on the Netflix top 10. It was only a matter of time before the streamer got around to renewing the beloved romantic drama.

Will there be a season 3 of Sweet Magnolias?

On May 4, 2022, three months after the release of season2, Netflix renewed Sweet Magnolias for a third season. The official renewal confirmed the favorable odds of the show coming back for another season thanks to it performing strongly for Netflix in the past.

It was also clear in the season 2 finale that the writers have many more stories planned and are hoping for another season, as evident by the number of cliffhangers introduced in the season 2 finale. Considering the series is also based on a book series with nearly a dozen books in the series, there is plenty more source material for Netflix to adapt for the show.

All of this is a long-winded way of saying the expectation among critics and audiences is Sweet Magnolias season 3 would happen, and now it’s officially happening sometime in 2023.
