There’s no doubt that Sandra Bullock is one of the biggest and most beloved movie stars in the world and always will be, but the Oscar winner has some positive things to say about her current success leading Netflix movies.

Bullock most recently starred in the Netflix original movie The Unforgivable, which saw the actress cement her standing as a Netflix force. Both The Unforgivable and the 2018 horror phenomenon Bird Box rank in the top 10 Netflix movies of all time.

While celebrating the release of her latest collaboration with Netflix upon its premiere in December 2021, Sandra Bullock had nothing but nice things to say about the streaming service. In fact, she joked that the streamer is the only reason she’s still working.

Of course, that’s not true at all. Bullock would have career longevity with or without Netflix, as she’s set to appear on the big screen this year in The Lost City and Bullet Train. But here’s what the erstwhile Miss Congeniality had to say about working with the streamer.

Sandra Bullock shouts out Netflix

The Hollywood Reporter caught up with Sandra Bullock at the premiere of The Unforgivable and asked the 57-year-old star about her recent work with Netflix. After admitting that she doesn’t worry about the viewing figures, Bullock expressed her gratitude for the streamer, telling THR:

"“They’re good to artists. They’re good to filmmakers. If it wasn’t for Netflix, a lot of people wouldn’t be working. Their stories wouldn’t be told. Who would think that me, as a woman, would still be working at this point? I would have been out in the cow pasture. It’s true.”"

Of course, she’s poking fun at her own age here, but she makes a decent point that the industry doesn’t often make a ton of room for women on screen. (And that’s merely scratching the surface of the industry’s issues with representation.) Bullock herself has had both hits and misses over the past decade, but her star power never once waned.

Continuing the praise for Netflix, Sandra Bullock also noted the unmissable breakout hit Korean series Squid Game, which absolutely dominated the tail end of 2021. She spoke with The Hollywood Reporter about Netflix’s role in opening doors for diverse storytelling, saying:

"“I’ve seen more work from other countries told by other nationalities, and we never would have had that 10 years ago, ever. It brings people together in a way that really, you know, we’re getting more and more divided and yet, we have the streamers that are able to blend our stories together and go, look, same story, just different.”"

Again, Bullock hits the nail on the head as Netflix has been a leading platform in introducing viewers to international content. We have seen more conversations started in the past few years about shows and movies that don’t originate from the US than perhaps ever before.

It’s safe to say that Bullock will remain in business with Netflix for many years to come. Although the film icon doesn’t yet have a production deal with the streamer, it seems imminent that the two powerhouses will join forces to produce more chart-topping content, and we’re definitely ready for the next great Sandra Bullock movie on Netflix.
