Great News

Seasons: 2

Created By: Tracey Wigfield

Starring: Briga Heelan, Andrea Martin, Adam Campbell, Nicole Richie, Horatio Sanz, John Michael Higgins

If you haven’t heard of the short-lived NBC sitcom Great News, then we have great news: You can still catch all of the laughs on Netflix. The comedy series comes from 30 Rock and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt duo Tina Fey and Robert Carlock and boasts the same breakneck joke pacing as the aforementioned fan-favorite comedies. What’s not to laugh about?

Great News stars Briga Heelan and Andrea Martin as mother-daughter duo Katie and Carol Wendelson, who find themselves working together at a television news program The Breakdown. When Carol accepts a position as the show’s new intern, she makes the work-life of budding news producer Katie all the more difficult on top of Katie’s crush on her boss, Greg (Adam Campbell).

In spite of mostly solid reviews from critics, Great News didn’t manage to kick up enough great news of its own to last longer than two seasons of 23 episodes total. But given the room to grow, the incredible ensemble — including comedy dark horse Nicole Richie — and excellent writing could have become something, well, great. Right now, it’s still one of the funniest shows on Netflix.
