The Tragedy of Macbeth is the much talked about film adaptation of the famous Shakespearean play, Macbeth.

It’s an oft told tale. Lord Macbeth, after speaking with three witches, believes he is to become the King of Scotland. His wife, Lady Macbeth, supports this belief commanding all the power she has to bring it to fruition.

It’s a play steeped in murderous, political intrigue and paranoia as violence begets violence and honor dies a swift, agonizing death in the face of usurpation. Joel Coen’s version is a black-and-white thriller that’s as unsettling as the play’s premise.

The film stars Denzel Washington and Frances McDormand as the scheming Macbeths whose quest for power involves more than one violent murder, hence the movie’s R rating for violence.

While The Tragedy of Macbeth isn’t your typical film on offer at theaters during the holidays, it will open on select screens Saturday, Dec. 25 before it makes its way to streaming in January 2022.

The movie, however, won’t be making its way to Netflix, unfortunately. Here’s where you can stream this adaptation online next year.
