Emily in Paris season 2 ending explained

If the final scene of the season left you going, “Wait, what?!,” you’re not alone. We never would have expected that Emily in Paris season 2 would bring Emily to a major decision about her career and her future in Paris.

Obviously, her personal life was taken to task in season 2 between the drama with Gabriel and Camille and her blossoming romance with Alfie. She’s made a life for herself in her (supposedly) temporary new home of Paris, but will she be heading back to Chicago?

She just might be! Sylvie, Luc, and Julien approach Emily with an offer to join their new marketing firm after parting ways with Savoir. However, Madeline wants Emily to stay on board and eventually work her way up to a promotion in Chicago.

After her relationship with Gabriel takes another unexpected turn, Emily calls Sylvie and informs her boss that she’s made her decision… but we aren’t privy to said decision. Either she’s opted to stay in Paris for longer than one year, or she’s taking the fast-track home.

Does Emily choose Alfie or Gabriel?

When Emily meets Alfie (Lucien Laviscount) in her French class, it’s not particularly love at first sight. But as the pair get to know each other and he starts to open up, they find something real. Well, almost as real as Emily’s love for Gabriel.

Although Alfie approaches Emily with the intention of continuing their relationship long distance from London, in the end, she runs to Gabriel and admits her feelings for the first time. Sure, Camille had just moved in, but Emily chose Gabriel. However, things can change…

Will Emily leave Paris in Emily in Paris season 3?

Because Netflix has not officially renewed Emily in Paris for season 3 just yet, it’s impossible to know what Emily chose for her future. Based on how she left things with Gabriel, it’s safe to assume she would turn down Sylvie’s offer and return to Chicago sooner than later.

She could also choose to accept Sylvie’s offer and continue to fight for true love with Gabriel. But as much as we adore Emriel (coined it!), we’re on the side of Emily choosing the bombshell path. Even if she does, season 3 still has the power to shift her direction back to Paris.

No matter what Emily decides to do, the stakes are unbelievably high. Both her professional and personal futures depend on this choice, and it’s no wonder it’s a difficult one for her to make. She’s not leaving Paris just yet, but you never know where season 3 might take her.
