Romantic Christmas movies

We shared the list of the best romantic Christmas movies on Netflix this year.

The Holiday

This romantic holiday comedy is a pure delight. The Holiday tells the story of two women who have had their hearts broken and long for an escape. Iris (Kate Winslet) lives in London and Amanda (Cameron Diaz) lives in LA; they arrange a home exchange.

While they try to acclimate to their vacation lifestyles, they meet new people who help them overcome their heartbreak.

The movie also stars Jude Law, Jack Black, Eli Wallach, Edward Burns and Rufus Sewell. It’s easily one of the best Christmas movies on Netflix right now.

Love Hard

The new release, Love Hard, is a Netflix original movie directed by Hernán Jiménez and written by Danny Mackey and Rebecca Ewing.

Natalie Bauer (Nina Dobrev) lives in LA and is a dating column writer who uses the horrible dates she acquires via a dating app for her writing source material. She is matched with a guy named Josh (Jimmy O. Yang), who lives in New York. She decides to surprise him for Christmas but discovers she has been catfished, as Josh used someone else’s photos for his profile.

Overall, critical reception has been less than favorable, but viewers feel quite differently. This movie has received great reviews from romantic comedy fans.

A Castle for Christmas

A Castle for Christmas was released on Netflix and is already on the Netflix Top 10.

In the movie, author Sophie Brown (Brooke Shields) travels to Scotland to escape the scandal of her latest novel. While there, she would like to purchase a small castle owned by Duke Myles (Cary Elwes). The Duke is a prickly man who doesn’t want to sell to a foreigner. As they try to find a compromise that will suit both of them, they continuously butt heads. Will they finally come to an agreement, or will they both find something they were looking for?

Holidate

Holidate is a charming romantic comedy directed by John Whitesell that stars Emma Roberts, Luke Bracey, Jake Manley, Jessica Capshaw, Andrew Bachelor, Frances Fisher, Manish Dayal and Kristin Chenoweth.

Sloane (Roberts) is tired of her family giving her grief at each family function for being single. Jackson (Bracey) is spending his holiday with a woman he sees no future with. When the pair meet while returning Christmas gifts at the mall, they talk about their issues with relationships, and Sloane tells him about her Aunt Susan’s solution.

Aunt Susan has what she dubs a “holidate.” She brings a new guy to each family function. Jackson suggests they be each other “holidate,” so he can avoid attachments and she can avoid her family’s pity.

Just Friends

The 2005 film, Just Friends, is a great romantic comedy set during Christmas. The movie stars Ryan Reynolds as Chris Brander, who vows never to return to his hometown and become more successful than anyone there, after being humiliated at graduation.

Ten years later, Chris has kept both of his vows, but while traveling, a storm grounds his plane, and it just happens to be near his hometown. He heads back home to see his mom and brother and encounters a slew of friends from high school. This includes his high school crush Jamie (Amy Smart), the center of his humiliation.

It is a hilarious look at returning to your hometown for the holidays.
