It’s all about Halloween this weekend. After a night of trick or treating, you’ll want to watch some good movies on Netflix. Here are our top picks.

You’re back home from a night of trick or treating with the kids, which means you need some family-friendly horror movies. Or maybe you’re getting the friends around on Saturday night and looking for scary movies to watch.

Whatever it is, you want something Halloween-themed for this weekend. Some will want pure horror, while others will want something not-so-scary but still fantastical. There are some excellent movies on Netflix to pick.

There are a couple of recent releases on the list, but I’ve also looked at some of the older releases for some of the best horror movies for the weekend.

5 must-watch movies on Netflix this weekend

Labyrinth

We start with an oldie but a goodie. Labyrinth is perfect for the entire family. It does have some scary moments, but nothing that’s going to lead to nightmares for most children. Even my five-year-old who can barely sleep without a nightlight loves this one!

Jennifer Connelly stars as Sarah, who enters into a mystical world after her baby brother is kidnapped by goblins and taken to the Goblin King. Sarah needs to do everything she can to get him back, and she makes some great friends along the way.

David Bowie is the Goblin King in this. As well as some interesting and creative puppets, the movie is also packed with great music.

Fear Street

Need something a little scarier but still suitable for younger audiences? You’ll want one of the latest original movies on Netflix. Fear Street is made up of three movies that take place in different time periods but they’re all connected to each other.

It all starts in 1994 when a group of teenagers find out that there’s a serial killer after them. This serial killer is cursed, and the next two movies explore the curse in full. There are some great throwbacks to the likes of Scream and Friday the 13th throughout the trilogy.

Hypnotic

When you want the most recent horror movies on Netflix, you’ll want to turn your attention to Hypnotic. Starring Kate Siegel from The Haunting of Hill House and Midnight Mass, the movie follows a young woman who wants to improve her life.

To do that, she turns to hypnosis. It’s supposed to help her, right? What if her hypnotherapist is holding back secrets that could affect her life? When she starts to lose track of time, she’ll start asking herself if hypnosis really is helping her.

Oxygen

Netflix brought an intriguing movie called Oxygen back in April. If you haven’t watched it yet, this weekend is the time to do it.

It focuses on a woman who wakes up in a cryogenic chamber. She has no idea how she got there, but she does know one thing: she’s going to run out of air soon. She needs to figure out what happened before she woke up in the chamber and find a way to escape before her air runs out.

His House

Last Halloween, you likely watched His House. This Halloween is a great time to watch it again. And if you skipped over it last year, put it at the top of the list to watch this year.

The movie follows a refugee couple working through the system in England. When they get their house, something supernatural happens inside. They need to figure out what this supernatural entity is before it swallows them whole. It has twists and turns that will lead to you watching it all over again to see the clues that you missed the first time.
