10 best not scary Halloween movies on Netflix
Monster House
Release Year: 2006
Directed By: Gil Kenan
Starring: Mitchel Musso, Sam Lerner, Spencer Locke, Steve Buscemi
In the early 2000’s animated film Monster House, 12-year-old DJ is set on uncovering the mystery of the haunted house next door that appears to have a craving for children. While it’s rated PG and has a good deal of comedy, this movie has been known to scare a kid or two.
In the story of Monster House, a 13-year-old, DJ, has been spying on his neighbor Nebbercracker who is infamous for his hatred of children. His house is the creepiest on the block and seems to swallow anything that steps onto the property… even children. On Halloween, a tragic event leads to DJ and his friend Chowder breaking into the house on a rescue mission. This time, the monster IS the house!
Monster House was written by the renowned Dan Harmon, known for Rick and Morty and Community. The cast features Mitchel Musso from Disney Channel as the main character DJ, Sam Lerner (The Goldbergs) as his best friend Chowder, and their newfound friend Jenny is voiced by Spencer Locke (Resident Evil).
Monster House is a classic animated Halloween film that’s terribly spooky without presenting too harsh a scare. I recommend keeping children under 10 away from this movie, but it really depends on what you’re comfortable with your kids watching. I, for one, will definitely be re-watching Monster House this Halloween season!
