Hubie Halloween
Release Year: 2020
Directed By: Steve Brill
Starring: Adam Sandler, Kevin James, Julie Bowen
This movie may have its PG-13-level moments of suspense, but Hubie Halloween is a comedy at heart. Adam Sandler plays 54-year-old Hubie Dubois, a quirky outcast in Salem, Mass. who sees himself as Halloween’s biggest fan despite being a scaredy-cat.
Hubie is sadly bullied by both kids and adults alike, even though he’s an outwardly kind and generous resident of Salem. His only fans are his mother (June Squibb) and secret admirer Violet Valentine (Julie Bowen), although Violet is married to officer Steve Downey (Kevin James).
Hubie’s self-appointed role as a volunteer Halloween helper involves teaching kids how to enjoy the holiday safely and monitor the city for potentially dangerous activities. This year, Hubie’s boy-who-cried-wolf tendencies will be realized when Salem is wracked with real kidnappings, a werewolf, and the escaped mental patient Richie Hartman (Rob Schneider). Will Hubie be able to solve these Halloween Night mysteries and save Salem from disaster?
Adam Sandler is known for his raunchy, distasteful, and cringe-worthy comedies which have been produced by his company Happy Madison at Netflix for the past few years. Sandler is at the help of most of these movie productions as an actor, writer, and/or director; Sandler is both the main actor and co-writer for Hubie Halloween.
Despite his reputation for bad movies, Adam Sandler films do incredibly well on Netflix which led to a multi-movie deal with Netflix in 2014. Happy Madison has produced seven movies for Netflix so far: The Ridiculous 6 (2015), The Do-Over (2016), Sandly Wexler (2017), The Meyerowitz Stories (2017), The Week Of (2018), Murder Mystery (2019), and Hubie Halloween (2020). The next movie on Netflix starring Adam Sandler will be Hustle next year.
