The Darkness

Speaking of horror movies with low ratings, The Darkness has a whopping 3% rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Yikes, y’all. And this has a pretty good cast too!

The Darkness follows the Taylor family. They go on vacation to the Grand Canyon. While there, their son Mikey discovers some black rocks in a cavern and takes some of them home.

When they make their way home, strange things start to happen. Water turns on by itself, handprints show up on mirrors, and other supernatural behavior occurs. A crow and a snake have shown up near or in the house.

Bronny, Mikey’s mother, starts to do some research on the rocks and the cavern around the area and discovers that it’s believed that demons are bound to the rocks. If they are taken, the demons take the shape of crows, snakes, coyotes, wolves, and buffalos. The demons also connect to young children and they try to drag them into their world to trigger what is known as “The Darkness.”

The only way to stop the demons? Someone who is not afraid must return the rocks to where they came from.

It isn’t until their daughter almost dies and Mikey is covered in black marks that the parents go to a spiritual healer. She cleanses the house, but it doesn’t do much to stop the demon. It will take Mikey to do that. But are the legends that Bronny learned about actually be true? Will returning the rocks actually work?

The Darkness stars Kevin Bacon, Radha Mitchell, David Mazouz, Lucy Fry, Parker Mack, Matt Walsh, Jennifer Morrison, Paul Reiser, and Ming-Na Wen.
