Pretty Smart season 2 renewed or canceled: Everything you need to know about season 2

The new Netflix original comedy series Pretty Smart debuted in October 2021, and it’s one of the funniest new shows of the year. After that jaw-dropping cliffhanger, fans want to know whether Pretty Smart season 2 will be happening on Netflix.

Emily Osment stars in Pretty Smart as Chelsea, an Ivy League grad and aspiring novelist whose plans take a turn when she, first temporarily then permanently, moves in with her less high-brow sister, Claire (Olivia Macklin).

Throughout the season, Chelsea grows closer to Claire’s longtime ex-boyfriend and roommate Grant (Gregg Sulkin), but his recurring feelings for Claire just might throw a snag in their romance. Chelsea’s new roommates also include influencer Jayden and spiritual healer Solana.

Is Pretty Smart canceled?

As of Oct. 18, 2021, Netflix has not announced a cancellation for Pretty Smart. Because of Netflix’s history of canceling series, especially sitcoms, after one season, fans of the freshman comedy should have a little bit of concern.

Unfortunately, Pretty Smart wasn’t a breakout title on the Netflix overall top 10, meaning most Netflix subscribers may not have been aware of the show’s premiere. However, the series did manage to make a small bit of headway on the TV top 10.

Netflix recently canceled the sitcoms The Crew starring Kevin James and Country Comfort starring Katharine McPhee, both after only one season. When it comes to quality, Pretty Smart edges out both series, so it could be a matter of viewership.

Is Pretty Smart renewed for season 2?

As mentioned above, Netflix hasn’t announced a decision regarding Pretty Smart’s fate in either direction. The sitcom hasn’t yet been renewed for season 2, but we’re remaining hopeful that the Emily Osment comedy can rally up a deserving renewal.

While the series doesn’t have the bragging rights of a tenure in the top 10, it’s definitely one of the funniest shows on the streamer, and there’s nothing else quite like it right now. As Netflix prepares to say goodbye to a number of comedies, keeping one around seems vital.

When will Netflix renew Pretty Smart for season 2?

Traditionally, Netflix doesn’t typically announced renewals for many weeks following a new show or season’s release. There’s usually about a month wait time, though some decisions can come much later and some arrive sooner than expected. (Hello, You season 4!)

Netflix will gather the data for Pretty Smart within the first month of its release, meaning we probably won’t have word on whether the series will return for season 2 much before early November 2021.

Here’s another bit of tricky information to predict because without an official renewal, it’s tough to say exactly when we could see Pretty Smart season 2 on Netflix. If Netflix’s decision is delayed longer than a month, that could push back the start of production.

However, our best estimate for a second season of Pretty Smart would be another fall drop in 2022. The seasons don’t take too long to produce, which could have each season premiering within a year of each other. Season 2 could also arrive sooner, perhaps in late summer 2022.
