Is You season 3 based on a book?

That’s right; You is based on the You book series by Caroline Kepnes. The first book of the series, titled You, was released in 2014.

Technically, as is mentioned in the opening sequence of each episode, You season 3 is based on Hidden Bodies, the second book of Kepnes’ series, but there are some key differences.

Is You season 3 different from the book?

You season 2 was also based on Hidden Bodies by Kepnes. You season 3 is based on the same book, but it’s really just an off-book continuation of that story.

As often happens, You season 2 is different than the book it’s based on, and that’s also true with You season 3. There are many key differences in the books, although some of the characters remain.

I don’t want to spoil the books, so you can go read the book series if you want to find out what happens in that story. It’s clear, though, that You season 3 is not following the book super closely.

Is there a third You book?

Yes, there is, but again, it’s quite different than You season 3. The book, You Love Me, was released in 2021.

That story continues on after the events of the second book and, again, follows Joe to a new location, but not Madre Linda.

It will be interesting to see if You season 4 follows You Love Me or if You showrunner and producer Sera Gamble leads the team in a different direction of the fourth season. Netflix has already ordered You season 4, so you better believe they are already hard at work on the new season.
