Who is the killer in There’s Someone Inside Your House?

There’s Someone Inside Your House, based on the YA book of the same name by Stephanie Perkins, just hit Netflix today and it’s sure to make everyone’s Halloween watch list. The film follows a group of teenagers whose lives are at stake after a masked murderer begins killing their classmates.

Protagonist Makani Young (Sydney Park) must deal with her new reality at school in Nebraska while also working through her traumatic past back in Hawaii. There are a few twists and turns throughout the horror film and it’s not easy to predict who the killer is until the end.

Spoilers ahead for There’s Someone Inside Your House.

Makani’s friend group at school consists of Alex (Asjha Cooper), Darby (Jesse LaTourette), Rodrigo (Diego Josef), Zach (Dale Whibley), and more recently Caleb (Burkely Duffield). Makani is in an on-and-off relationship with Ollie (Théodore Pellerin), though she keeps it a secret from her friends.

As the murderer kills more people and exposes their biggest secrets, it’s quickly realized that the killer is targeting those with secret pasts.

The first person who’s killed, Jackson (Markian Tarasiuk), was exposed for getting violent while hazing, and then when Katie (Sarah Dugdale) was killed, everyone found out she recorded a racist podcast.

As the high schoolers scramble to figure out who the killer is and how to stay safe, they attend a secret party, where everyone gets together to confess to their deepest, darkest secrets. Makani is still holding onto the biggest secret of them all, and it’s not her relationship with Ollie.

Though we don’t know what exactly happened at first, we do learn that Makani was arrested back in Hawaii and eventually moved to Nebraska, going by a different last name. Ollie somehow finds out about this and confronts Makani, who runs away. When she returns home at night, she’s attacked by the killer and manages to survive. She’s convinced the killer must be Ollie since he knew about her secret past.

When Makani wakes up in the hospital after being attacked, she decides to reveal what happened in Hawaii to her friends. She explains that while being hazed for a sports team, she was forced to drink alcohol and was pressured to turn on the other girls while out by a fire. Makani ended up pushing a girl into the fire, and though she fortunately survived, she was burned pretty severely.

Is Ollie the killer in There’s Someone Inside Your House?

Ollie is an outcast at school with a troubled past of his own. He doesn’t have any friends, and so Makani’s friends all judge him and think he’s creepy. They’re pretty much convinced he’s the killer, so when Makani says so too, they’re all in agreement.

However, that ends up not being the case. Ollie is not the killer, but someone the group knows very well.

In the third act of the film, Makani is waiting for a ride at school when Ollie shows up. Scared, she runs into the school and sees Caleb. The two embrace and someone stabs Caleb in the back. The killer stands before Makani and hands her the bloodied knife, and behind her, Ollie runs up to make sure she’s okay. This is proof that Ollie is innocent.

Alex and Darby pull up, and Makani realizes the killer could be headed to Sandford Family Farms which is hosting a corn maze. When they arrive, they see the maze is on fire and people are running for their lives out of it. The group decides to drive through the maze to see if they can save anyone, especially after realizing Zach might be in there.

Makani and Ollie then run through the maze calling for Zach, and what they find is unexpected to see the least. They see Zach’s dad Mr. Sanford (William MacDonald) standing across the killer, begging him not to hurt anyone else.

After the killer murders Mr. Sanford, he reveals himself to be Zach! That’s right — Zach kills his dad and has been the murderer all along!

Zach ends up stabbing Ollie, who falls to the ground. He then has a conversation with Makani, explaining how he’s not afraid to show his true self anymore. He says he could frame Makani for the murders, but Ollie is able to shoot Zach with a taser, and then Makani stabs him repeatedly, killing him.

The killer is always someone you wouldn’t expect in these teen slasher movies! We knew it couldn’t have been Ollie.

Fortunately, Ollie survives and everyone is able to start moving on. Makani even gives a moving speech at their high school graduation.

There’s Someone Inside Your House certainly isn’t the most original horror movie, but it’s a fun watch. It’s streaming on Netflix right now, so if you’re into slashers you should definitely check it out!
