“The Marine Biologist”

Seinfeld season 5 episode 14, “The Marine Biologist” is often cited as one of Jerry Seinfeld’s favorite episodes. This is because all of the storylines are tied together at the end, a staple of the show’s writing in later seasons.

Jerry runs into a former high school classmate and crush of George. He lies and says that George is a marine biologist. In the final minutes of the episode, George and his crush stumble upon a crowd gathering on the beach. With a beached whale the source of interest, George is forced to either confess the truth or spring into action.

The episode ends with a smartly written monologue from George that contains some odd, but funny imagery: an old man sending soup back at a deli.

This episode is a must-watch for any Seinfeld fan.

“The Stall”

Seinfeld season 5 episode 12, “The Stall” introduced two phrases to society’s vocabulary.

First, “not a square to spare” is the iconic line that Jerry’s girlfriend tells Elaine when she asks for toilet paper through the stall after running out.

The second, “he’s a male bimbo, he’s a mimbo” is uttered by Jerry when discussing Elaine’s new boyfriend, Tony.

Meanwhile, George has a giant man-crush on Tony, and Kramer is lusting after Jerry’s girlfriend–who he is convinced is the same woman he talks to on a phone sex line.

“The Labelmaker”

Seinfeld season 6 episode 12, “The Labelmaker” features Bryan Cranston as a dentist, Tim Whatley. Tim has a pair of Super Bowl tickets that he waffles back and forth on who to give them to. George is dating a woman with a male roommate who resembles George.

Centered around the Super Bowl, Jerry is upset that Tim reneged on his offer for the tickets so he could instead invite Elaine, who he wants to date. George’s plan to get rid of the roommate backfires when he actually moves out, but it is discovered that all of the furniture is his.

In a separate storyline, Kramer and Newman play a spirited game of Risk, “a game of domination played by two guys who can barely run their own lives”.

Elaine finds out that Tim regifted a label maker she had given him. As Jerry puts it, “I think he regifted, he de-gifted, and now he’s using an upstairs invite as a springboard to a Super Bowl sex romp.”

In the end, Jerry gets to go to the Super Bowl, but finds out at the game that Tim gave the other ticket to his mailman, Newman!
