Kid Cosmic and the Intergalactic Truck Stop is now streaming on Netflix less than a year since the premiere of season 1!

It took only one watch through to know this series is Craig McCracken’s best yet. The Cartoon Network veteran has become known as one of the greatest creative directors in the animation industry, known for Dexter’s Laboratory, The Powerpuff Girls and Foster’s Home for Imaginary Friends.

McCracken’s creations have shaped the hearts and minds of so many childhoods, and he isn’t stopping anytime soon.

Kid Cosmic tells the story of Kid, an energetic and imaginative young boy who finds five Cosmic Stones of Power that grant supernatural abilities. He and his friends must learn to control their powers to save Earth from the aliens who seek the stones.

What happens in Kid Cosmic season 2?

The finale of season 1 clearly sets up the plot of Kid Cosmic and the Intergalactic Truck Stop. After her narrow escape from Erodious “The Planet Killer,” Queen Xhan returns to Earth to enlist the Local Heroes to help save the galaxy. She teleports Mo’s Oasis Cafe and its residents into space, becoming the “intergalactic truck stop” that serves as a home base.

Season 2 takes place some time after the finale when the diner has become a beloved spot for aliens of all kinds. As leader, Jo has been putting off their mission to find more Stones of Power and stop Erodious, much to Kid’s dismay.

The course changes when Kid is kidnapped by Fantos the Amassor, a fan-boy who seeks the stones to complete his collection of Erodious merch. He acts as the main villain for season 2 you love to hate.

Jo and the Local Heroes must fight their way across the galaxy to obtain the 13 (known) Cosmic Stones of Power and defeat Erodious once and for all. Cue new superpowers, allies and enemies.

The first season of Kid Cosmic focuses on the main character Kid and his journey in self-confidence. Kid is an eccentric orphan child with delusions of grandeur that mask his insecurities. Kid struggles with feelings of self-doubt and anger, especially about not being good enough. His character development is subtly written throughout 10 episodes by McCracken and his team of incredible artists. By the end of the season, Kid has discovered his inner strength and is happy to name someone else the leader of the Local Heroes.

In season 2, Kid takes a backseat and Jo becomes the main character for eight episodes. She also struggles with self-doubt and the crippling fear of being a bad leader. Queen Xhan steps in as a role model, who Jo chooses to follow over her own mother Flo’s advice. Jo learns what it takes to be a good leader, and a bad one, through her storyline in season 2.

The only real problem I have with this season is the lack of time spent on the other Local Heroes. Flo and the staff of Mo’s Cafe get screen time as heroes with new stones, which is fun! Unfortunately, Chuck the alien enemy-turned-ally has little to no screen time.

What will happen in season 3 of Kid Cosmic?

At the end of Kid Cosmic and the Intergalactic Truck Stop, Kid and the Local Heroes (now including most of the side characters in Mo’s Oasis Cafe) find themselves back on Earth. Their actions have caused hundreds, if not thousands, of new Stones of Power to be scattered across the planet.

This time around, the men-in-black style government agency ask for help. And guess what? There’s no more need for the CW’s attempt at a grown-up Powerpuff girls show. Season 3 of Kid Cosmic may or may not star McCracken’s canon adult Blossom, Bubbles and Buttercup as the Planet Protection Group.

Now, the Local Heroes must become the Global Heroes to obtain stones from evil-doers around Earth! With the help of the PPG, who monitor evil activity around the world, finding the rogue Cosmic Stones should be a piece of cake… right?

We’ll have to wait for the next season, Kid Cosmic and the Global Heroes, to find out.
