Best high school movies on Netflix

It’s Back to School Week at FanSided, and we are having lots of fun revisiting the classroom. Today in homeroom, we will look at some of the best high school movies on Netflix.

High school movies are always a fun look at life through the eyes of high school students, with moments we can all relate to. Some we look back on with fond memories, others with horrible deja vu.

Netflix has a great list of high school-themed films, and we will recommend some that we think are great. Up first are two current films set in high school that are wildly popular on Netflix.

The Kissing Booth

The Kissing Booth film series consists of three films, with the third being released this month. The trio of films are teen romantic comedies that follow the story of Elle Evans. These films are based on novels of the same name written by Beth Reekles.

The story shows Elle as she navigates her way to becoming an adult with her best friend Lee and her love interest, Noah. Elle and Lee’s friendship is admirable and couldn’t be as great as it is without their special set of rules.

The first film was a straightforward story about a girl in high school and her long-time crush. In the sequel, new characters were introduced, making for a more complicated story, but this makes sense as life gets more complicated the older we get. The third film sees the group spending one last summer together before heading off to college. What should have been the summer to remember ends up being interrupted by personal issues.

All three films are very well done, and the topics age with the characters. The trilogy of films may not have done so well critically, but viewers enjoy the films as shown by the streaming numbers.

To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before

Another trilogy of films, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, and the two follow-up films are also based on novels, these written by Jenny Han. Again, these teenage romance films are wildly popular on Netflix.

Lara Jean Covey is just an average teenage girl who crushes on boys and keeps it secret. She pens letters to the boys confessing her feelings, but the letters are for her eyes only. One day, the letters become public, and her life will never be the same.

The trilogy stars Lana Condor, Noah Centineo, Janel Parrish, Anna Cathcart, Madeleine Arthur, Emilija Baranac, Israel Broussard and John Corbett.
