After months of waiting post-cancellation, Manifest season 4 seems more like a reality at Netflix than ever. As first reported by Deadline, the cast and writers are in discussions with the streamer to lock down new deals for a potential fourth season.

Although NBC had also been in talks to bring the series back to either the broadcast network or its streaming service Peacock, Netflix appears to have won the battle of saving Manifest. That shouldn’t be a shock to anyone given those massive streaming numbers.

As of this writing on Aug. 19, Manifest season 4 isn’t official, but the news that Netflix is working to secure cast and writer deals looks like as good of a sign as any Manifester could hope for. Finally, the fourth season isn’t just a wild hope but a definite possibility.

But what still stands in the way of Manifest season 4 heading to our Netflix watch lists? There are a few kinks that need to be ironed out behind the scenes, and we’re breaking down what needs to happen for the season 3 cliffhanger to be a cliffhanger no more.

Is Manifest season 4 saved at Netflix?

Currently, Manifest hasn’t been officially saved by Netflix, as the cast and writers are still working out deals to return for the potential fourth season. Since their contracts expired in June when the series was canceled by NBC, securing the whole crew for another round is crucial.

Of course, there’s also the much more complicated matter of Netflix taking ownership of international distribution rights for Manifest, which is handled by Warner Bros. Television on a market by market basis. Netflix currently has the rights to seasons 1 and 2, which have been a major success, and would want them for season 3 and all future seasons.

It isn’t a totally unattainable negotiation, as Netflix and WBTV have hammered down the same kind of deal in the past with Lucifer, which was also canceled after three seasons by Fox. Obviously, things worked out wonderfully for Lucifer and lightning could strike twice.

Between the deals for the cast and writers and the worldwide distribution rights, there are multiple stars that need to align for Manifest season 4 to come to fruition. But Netflix shouldn’t, and doesn’t appear to want to, let this fan-favorite series slip through its fingers.
