Beckett is the latest movie to come to the Netflix library, foregoing a theatrical release. The film comes from award winning director Ferdinando Cito Filomarino and was an official selection for the Locarno Film Festival, so we hope this movie will live up to the hype.

John David Washington (known for Tenet and BlacKkKlansman) stars as the movie’s lead Beckett, who is thrown into a political conspiracy and forced to fight for his life.

Beckett and his girlfriend April (Alicia Vikander) go on a private trip to Greece in order to find romance and solitude. The couple have a lovely vacation until their car plummets off a cliff and crashes into a house, leaving Beckett with a broken arm and April dead. Greek officials visit him in the hospital to hear his story. Beckett mentions that there was someone in the house, much to the officers’ intrigue, although they denied that anyone could have lived there.

From here, things seem to get wild.

What is Beckett about?

When Beckett returns to the ruined house, he’s fired on by the police officers. For reasons unbeknownst to him, becomes the Greek police’s Most Wanted.

From tourist to target, he gets help from locals to escape to the United States Embassy in Athens. The official there becomes a flimsy ally, and Beckett continues his deadly run from the police. As he becomes increasingly scrutinized, his fear turns to anger and frustration. We’ll see how he decides to retaliate in the climax of the film.

The Netflix synopsis is as follows:

"An American tourist goes on the run in Greece after a tragic accident plunges him into a political conspiracy that makes him a target for assassination."

Why is Beckett a threat to the Greek government? Who was in the ruins? What political conspiracy has he become wrapped up in?

These questions will be answered when the movie is released tonight,  Aug. 13 2021 at 12:01 a.m. Pacific Time, which is 3:01 a.m. Eastern Time. It’s a suspenseful 1 hour 50 minute action-packed thriller. Buckle up for a wild ride!
