When Netflix revealed the official trailer for the upcoming teen romantic comedy He’s All That, fans of the original movie that the newbie is based on might have heard a familiar song. “Kiss Me” by Sixpence None the Richer appeared in She’s All That, but who sings the new cover?

Whether you’re an excited new fan waiting for the new movie to premiere on Netflix in August or you’re a bitter loyalist of the original 1999 classic will definitely dictate your reaction to hearing the song that closes out She’s All That remixed for a completely different generation.

TikTok star Addison Rae headlines He’s All That as teenage influencer Padgett Sawyer, who looks to revive her image at school by turning the least popular boy in her class, Cameron Kweller (Tanner Buchanan), into the future prom king. Obviously, sparks fly and “Kiss Me” is necessary.

It makes sense that the Netflix remake would pay homage to the original (beyond bringing back star Rachael Leigh Cook as the mom) by revamping the song that’s heavily associated with the film. But should those who prefer the Sixpence None the Richer anthem add the new version to their playlist? Here’s everything to know about the “Kiss Me” cover!

Who sings Kiss Me in He’s All That?

If you heard “Kiss Me” in the trailer and immediately wondered who provides the vocals for the updated version, it’s not Sixpence None the Richer. Pop singer Cyn covers “Kiss Me” in the remix by BettinaBergström. Cyn also recorded a non-remix version that She’s All That fans can appreciate. Both versions of the cover are available to stream wherever you get your music.

Cyn is a 28-year-old singer signed to Unsub Records, Katy Perry’s imprint on her Capitol Records label. The singer has also contributed songs to the soundtracks of such films as To All the Boys: P.S. I Still Love You, Birds of Prey and Promising Young Woman. Although Cyn hasn’t yet released an album, she has released a string of catchy singles and an EP called Mood Swing.

Even though millennials who grew up with She’s All That and the original “Kiss Me” might feel some kind of way about the cover, we can rest assured knowing it’s in the caring and talented hands of a fellow millennial. Make sure to give Cyn’s new take a stream (though listen to the remix at your own risk) and stick around for her other earworms like “Drinks” and “I Can’t Believe.”

He’s All That premieres on Netflix on Friday, Aug. 27.
