The film Five Feet Apart is a romantic drama that pulls the viewers into the lives of two cystic fibrosis patients. This drama was originally released by CBS Films via Lionsgate in 2019 and received mixed reviews.

Five Feet Apart marks the directorial debut of Justin Baldoni, who has since then also directed the film Clouds. Baldoni is also known in his role as Rafael Solano on Jane the Virgin. The film is based on an original script by Mikki Daughtry and Tobias Iaconis, who also co-wrote The Curse of La Llorona, which is part of The Conjuring universe.

The film’s title refers to the six-foot rule guideline from the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to lower the risk of cross-infection in CF patients.

What is Five Feet Apart about?

The storyline is inspired by the heroic story of Claire Wineland, a girl who was born with cystic fibrosis and was an activist and social media personality. Wineland served as a consultant for this film before her death at the young age of 21.

Stella Grant (Haley Lu Richardson) and Will Newman (Cole Sprouse) are both cystic fibrosis patients. They meet at one of their many hospital visits, and it is far from love at first sight. Eventually, they go on a first date and Stella, always the stickler for the rules, bends the six feet apart rule and moves to five feet apart on their date.

The story is heart-wrenching and tender and will remind you of The Fault in Our Stars.
