It’s time to celebrate, because Outer Banks season 2 is finally out on Netflix! Pogues for life, am I right? If you’ve seen the show, you know the basic premise is that protagonist John B (Chase Stokes) is desperate to find out what happened to his dad, Big John (Charles Halford), who disappeared while out looking for buried treasure. Of course, there’s way more stuff that happens along the way, but the end goal is always the same in season 1: Find the gold, find Big John.

Unfortunately, as we learn in Outer Banks season 1, Big John was actually murdered while on his quest for gold. And as it turns out, Ward Cameron (Charles Esten) was the one who killed him. To make matters even more complicated, Ward happens to be John B’s boss and the father of Sarah Cameron (Madelyn Cline), John B’s love interest. Yup, things do get very tense for the couple once the truth is revealed.

In Outer Banks season 2, John B and the Pogues are still out to get the gold, but they’re also determined to clear John B’s name after the very dramatic season 1 finale. There are a whole lot of moving parts in the second season, including uncovering Pope’s (Jonathan Daviss) secret family history, so you’d better get your popcorn ready for this binge.

Spoilers for Outer Banks season 2 ahead.

As the Pogues learn more about the treasure and the deep history behind Pope’s family, we’re introduced to a new character named Carla Limbrey (Elizabeth Mitchell) who’s after something she thinks the group has. Although the Pogues are able to escape from Limbrey, the Wards, and pretty much society as a whole, Limbrey is still hellbent on finding what she’s looking for.

And in the final moments of Outer Banks season 2, we see how far she goes to get what she wants — in a shocking plot twist.

Outer Banks season 2 twist ending explained

After we cut from the Pogues in the finale of Outer Banks season 2, we get a scene where Limbrey walks up to a house and shows an unidentified man a letter she received. Understanding, the man opens the door and allows her in. “How is he?” she asks, to which the man says, “Half dead for a long time.” Any guesses as to who it could be?!

The man gestures to Limbrey and tells her that the person they’re talking about is outside, and when Limbrey finds who she’s looking for, he tells her he can help her. If you quickly had suspicions during this scene that it would be Big John, you’d be right! Big John turns to the camera so we can see his face, and he tells Limbrey that he’ll help her if she helps his son, a.k.a. John B!

If you’re now wondering just how Big John is alive, we’re also confused about that! The episode ends right there so there’s no room for explanation, but it looks like Outer Banks season 3 will be another wild ride if the series gets renewed. I am seriously looking forward to a reunion between John B and Big John! Tears will be shed, for sure.

Fingers crossed Outer Banks is renewed for season 3 soon! It would be a mistake for Netflix not to order another installment of this popular series given how many fans it has and considering that wild twist at the end of season 2.
