Does Sarah get back with Topper in Outer Banks season 2?
The ex-boyfriend you love to hate, Topper (Austin North) is very much a central character yet again in Outer Banks season 2. In case you forgot about him, he dated Sarah (Madelyn Cline) at the start of the series, as they’re both Kooks and run in the same social circles. Topper quickly identified himself as a jerk to viewers, not respecting Sarah and even getting mad at her at one point in season 1 when Sarah didn’t want to have sex. Not a good look!
Sarah ultimately cheated on Topper in Outer Banks season 1 after striking up a romance with John B (Chase Stokes), which, of course, isn’t ideal. But we all knew from the beginning that Sarah and Topper were not meant to be, and I’m sure Sarah herself knew that subconsciously.
So what happens between Sarah and Topper in Outer Banks season 2? Why are we asking if they get back together? Read on to find out!
Spoilers for Outer Banks season 2 ahead.
What happens with Sarah and Topper in Outer Banks season 2?
Topper positions himself as the good guy in Outer Banks season 2, and while I can’t tell if he’s being genuine or manipulative, it’s evident his goal is to get Sarah back. Even before Sarah and John B break up, Topper swoops in to make his move. And, of course, he does so at just the most convenient time.
Sarah’s ongoing conflict with her brother Rafe (Drew Starkey) is again a plot point in the second season, as Rafe still denies he shot Sheriff Peterkin (Adina Porter) and instead blames her death on John B. At one point in season 2, Rafe tricks Sarah into getting her alone on a boat and attempts to drown her. Conveniently, Topper shows up and saves the day. He beats up Rafe and takes Sarah home to comfort her. Sarah stays with Topper as he dotes on her, and she understandably feels as though this is a safe place for her.
Eventually, Sarah wants to go back to John B and the Pogues, and Topper agrees to take her. When getting back to the other side of the island, Topper and John B bicker for a few minutes, and when Sarah doesn’t acknowledge in front of Topper that she and John B are in a relationship or “married” as they say, things really go south. As you’d imagine, John B is very upset about this and Sarah explains that she didn’t want to rub their romance in Topper’s face.
The tension continues and after John B and Sarah break up, of course Topper thinks it’s his time to shine. He continues being a safe place for Sarah who doesn’t want to go back to her house, and it’s clear he wants to get back together.
Who does Sarah end up with in Outer Banks season 2?
Fortunately for those shipping John B and Sarah, they do end up together by the end of Outer Banks season 2. Although Sarah is grateful for all the help Topper provided for her, they do not get back together at all. They simply hang out and though Sarah flirts with Topper a little bit, it’s just to make John B jealous.
Sorry, Topper, you just aren’t meant to be with Sarah! She’s a Pogue now, and that’s a fact.
The finale of Outer Banks season 2 sees the Pogues — Sarah included — back together and having a blast. There’s also a huge plot twist in the final moments which we will not spoil for you here. If you haven’t watched the new season yet, what are you waiting for?!
